Map editor - cartography thing

how does it work - I've been clicking away to try and modify a generated map - no matter what I click nothing changes - any ideas?

*dodgy bump*

I generated a map and it had 'S' icons, that I assume were meant to symbolise starting positions. On the next map I generated there were no 'S' icons.

Can someone perleeeeease advise how the map editor works. No matter what tool or tile I select i cannot seem to 'edit' anything.

I would also recommend you re-start the game when you generate a new map. It doesn't seem capable of generating two maps in a row in the cartographer.
