[Design Issue?][1.0] Inappropriate champion equipment in campaign?

The hero Gnarri, whom you receive early in the campaign as a quest reward, comes with a maul and 3 pieces of leather armor. He is 110% encumbered out of the gate, and this slows your army's move to 1. There's no mention made of why this is or indication of how to resolve the issue that would help a new player sort things out. Unless you look for the cause and know a bit of the game mechanics already, this issue is somewhat obfuscated. Don't know if Gnarri's equipment/lack of strength trait is on purpose, but it seems very odd.

Noticed this, too.

^_^

Why do I have a feeling this came to happen due to the encumbrance limit changing at some point (Wasn't it higher once?)... Anyways pretty funny :)

Don't worry. We all saw in the vid yesterday. They went through the campaign. ;)

Thanks, it is a rather weighty club. We noticed it during testing, but it wasnt a major issue so was pushed to a future patch/backburned. A workaround is to swap equipment with Relias as he will be able to carry it and not get over encumbered. We will have to nerf the club weight as a long term solution though.

Those lead-iridium leg plates do not seem exactly light... good that he discarded all chest armor including the T-shirt to compensate, very practical battle gear, it makes you unable to charge or flee, yet you still remain extremely vulnerable in all critical body parts like chest, stomach, neck, arms and head, lol.

Okay, I forgot, he has bracers. He can just deflect all the attacks with forearms.

I took off one piece of armor, got him to a limit of 30/30 lbs until he leveled up. Plus I found the Sword of Wrath (25 attack, plus other stuff).

I just ended up giving him the backpack that allows you to carry more weight.  problem solved

Not sure you should change the weight of the weapon as I LIKE that encumbrance matters.  Don't be so quick to push the EZ Mode button.  Why not just tweak Gnarri's traits to include handling more weight?

Also, some of these items should be locked (untradable) to the character if you're really looking for an RPG feel

I like that he is encumbered.  Maybe Gnarri didn't know he was being effected by it.  Relias a more experienced soldier just needed to show him the way.

I wouldn't change it.

I agree, only being 3 pounds over, it's not a major weight to bear (especially if you take one piece of armor off to get back to full 2 movement points) for just a level or two, when you can start getting some +weight abilities.

The fact that it reduces you to 1 square/turn speed on the world map when the campaign already has a slow pace early on is just not a good thing. If it only affected him in combat, I couldn't care less.

I was thinking, you just want to show, how slow is the overencumbered hero. Forcing the player to redesign ther equipment of that unit. I liked it that way :)

In the interim, you could just change that character to starting with the Backpack equipment? Or the Strength attribute.

I concur, I liked that I had to say... hmmm, what the hell is going on here, I only have 1 movement point now. Just a little investigation, temporarily un-equipping one piece of armor worth only 1 point of AC, and back in business. It's a good early lesson to pay attention to what's going on.
