Your non-Steam version won't get updated beyond 0992.  So you will want to uninstall it.

So for steam users we do not need to do an uninstall?

Yes, you do.  Because the updates will only affect games installed through Steam.

Unless Stardock chooses to offer updates separately, outside of Steam, and I've seen no mention of this.

The current beta isn't being installed through Steam currently for them?

Think of it this way: Paradox has Crusader Kings II available in both Steam and non-Steam versions.  It has to offer updates both on Steam, and elsewhere, because Steam updates will only increment game versions installed through Steam, and non-Steam updates have to be used for all non-Steam titles.

Stardock doesn't intend at this point to offer downloads of the final FE game code outside Steam.  So...if you want updates, you'll need to go with the Steam version.  Might as well uninstall the non-Steam, since it isn't going to be updated.

Are we talking beta vs. release? This might deserve a sticky.

I've seen no posts that say this, and in fact I've seen some from Frogboy that contradict this.  IF you don't have the steam version now, you will not get it on steam at release either.  If you download from stardock.com then you will get the updates after release in the same way.  If you use steam, go to steam to get the updates.

Unless something has changed very recently, this is exactly what I believe as well.

You may be right, judging from one comment by staff that I've googled.  And I'm hoping I'm wrong, since that will mean I can keep the location of my installation, without being forced to use Steam's.  We'll just see.

I'm still unclear whether we have have to uninstall the Steam beta version before we can install the full version that's being released tomorrow. Can someone please give an unequivocal answer one way or the other?

Fallen Enchantress does not use Steamworks, so if you don't want to use Steam, it's as simple as not buying it from Steam. It's even easier if you were an early WoM buyer, as you already have it direct from us!

If you pre-ordered and got the beta through Steam, I'd expect Steam should be able to figure out on its own whether it needs a full reinstall when that time comes.

lol, that got suspiciously close to a Derek Smart summons from the gaming site voodooextreme.com from way back in the day.

So for those of us who bought War of Magic a long time ago and who, therefore, got the free upgrade to Enchantress, will we be able to play it on Steam once we DL from Stardock, or we will get the DL from Stardock independently and never deal with Steam?

I'm kind of sorry now that I pre-ordered it and downloaded the beta a couple days ago. I should have just waited and avoided the confusion.

Then I was wrong, and that makes me a *lot* happier, given the smaller partitions on my hard drive.

The download for early WoM buyers is direct from the Stardock store website or SDC.

If you like Steam, you can add it to your games list manually as you can with any game after you download it from us. If you don't, you don't have to have anything to do with it.

Kyro do we have to uninstall the beta or will the new release version overwrite it?

What we, Steam beta tester users, are wondering, is:

Should we uninstall the beta version and then fully download the release?

OR does the release overwrite the beta, so no need unistalling? In this case, all factions/sovs created will be deleted too, or need a manual erasing?

I was about to create a post for Steam beta testers, but I will use this, as you can see, we are still confused. Please, make a post to keep us informed...

I noticed steam auto-updated me from .991 to .992 but all of this has got me concerned. Can someone get an answer to this question please?

Will steam users have to uninstall and download from Stardock or will Steam auto-update like they did with the Betas?

during the sins rebellion beta the updates downloaded, and at release stream updated to the released game without un-installing, so I would expect that stream users will just get updated.
