[991 bug] AI can get out of all treaties early

save game here https://dl.dropbox.com/u/109779367/The%20lull.EleSav

This is a continuation of a pet peeve,  Treaties may be worrking as designed, I regard them as deeply flawed

This is my second tribute session with Yithril. If you take a look at the map I hope you agrree with my thinking

This is on challenging. In fact Looking at the map the AI doesnt seem to be doing much of anything, certainly there is no pioneer spam

Yitril has two settlments, Gilden one. The later is close to a fairly wiild area and I suspect the M&R chopped theri early efforts up pretty good.

Yithril has taken out a Wildland, but doesnt seem to know what to do with it  -

Soo Tribute, which SHOULD have about 16 turns tp go is keeping them off my back whilel I - Help Gilden in the west

The tribute does not show up on the foreiegn relations screen - But if you talk to verga it is still in place

Take a look at C-Charlie to the east, turns out my buffer zone is flawed as I have neutral ground within one tile of the city.

PS I am about to fix this.

Sooo, If you play a couple of turns,

1 expect a declaration of war from Verga, and when that happens lok at the above mentioned C-Charlie

well soooprize, soooprize you'll find the mother of all Civ monster stacks in the dead ground .

PSS I loved CIV and CIVII, and hated III and IV for the monsterstack,  everyone and their cat in the same dog-pile.

Ya, the treaty system was written by an offspring of Hitler. Not sure how he got past HR.

Shouldn't it be a simple deal that a treaty lasts for X seasons, that the treaty doesn't get cancelled until after X seasons?  This is quite a major bug, and it should be fixed for polish AND balance!

It gets worse - here is a save game. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/109779367/31.EleSav

As n oted previously I regard this as cheating on the pqart of the AI, So I took a save and proceeded to pivot to the east.

I'm now in a "Groundhog Day" Type of situation in the the tribute does not show as counting down in the foreign relations part of the screen.

I am being docked Gilder for it

When I Talk to Verga it shows as being in effect.

AND the option to declare war - Not that I'm totally ready , but I'd like the option- is grayed out

"Ya, the treaty system was written by an offspring of Hitler. Not sure how he got past HR." Quote from SeanW

Seems to indicate that this is a "Works as designed" issue - one of the very vew flaws in the game, and rresolvable, but still not great

No, I don't think it's working as designed.  If it says a treaty lasts for X turns, it should last that many.  No more, and definitely no less.

This late in the day, shouldn't there be more information when you're approached by an AI player who wants an economic treaty?  If I were a new player, I'd have no idea what benefits I'd receive, much less the other player involved.  The screen definitely needs more information.

And why are we still seeing offers to trade 22 Civilization tech points for 22 Civilization tech points?

End of quote

Get your facts straight.  Written by an offspring of Hitler and an aunt of Eris.

And what is wrong with this?  My side gets a 23 research points boost in something I have not yet researched in the civilization tree, and so does the AI's side.  It even makes sense.  "I know about workshops, you know about bell towers, lets trade some blueprints."

That's how it works.  There is a hint in one of the loading screen that tells you this.  You are probably thinking that you LOSE 22 point and then GAIN 22 points in this transaction.   You don't.  You both gain 22.

Trading is a very important part of the game for research.  Play with pacing on Epic if you aren't already and watch as you struggle to make your way through the tech tree without trading information with your other factions.

Never trade tech points to the AI. They go around and sell them to your enemies. I only buy and give them gildar or metal.

Devs, have you been able to fix the "getting out of treaties early" by the AI?

Meh. I trade to my enemies before I declare war anyway.  On the difficulties I play at, I am always out-teched.  I'll get more use out of 48 Gildar than my opponent will from 16 research in Civilization.

I encourage you to think that way when we inevitably meet in multiplayer matches.
