[991] Crash

Shortly after selecting "New" from the startup menu.  The music begins to stutter a bit, and then the game CTDs.  First time that's happened, and I've been playing the betas for more than 4 months.  Also happens repeatedly.  Using 32-bit WinXP.

Thanks for the timely Observation, Glazunov1.

I've had no issues with the v 0.990 build (no crashes).  However I was expecting to download the ( reputedly ) super-short v 0.991 update.  I understood that it was designed principally to correct other crash-inducing bugs!  (And, like you, I am using 32-bit WinXP.)  Now I am having second thoughts ... So, Thanks for the Info; and Good Luck with your situation!

Surely, Derek and company will get this one "sorted out" quickly ...

[Edit:  I've added a Reply to Derek's v 0.991 Changelog, to this effect.]

I suspect so.  Unfortunately, I can only download the full 991 package, so if the problem is in there as well, I'll be no further along.  We'll see.

Problem is still there.  I can't say whether it's related to .990 or .991, as I didn't get around to playing the former, due to a heavy workload.  Didn't exist in any of the previous betas I've played, however, and that goes back several months.

What language version of windows are you running? Do you have mods enabled? Did you modify any XML at any point?

32-bit WinXP Pro, SP3, standard American English, no mods, no XML changes.  Same setup that worked fine pre-.990.  I can't say that .990 was the culprit, because as I wrote above, I didn't have a shot at playing it prior to downloading .0991.

Just found something interesting: I can load without problems my last saved game from .0983.  It did use a mod--Heavenfall's--and yes, that's despite "Use Mods" being unchecked, and the required mod files no longer being under C:/My Games/Fallen Enchantress/Mods.  However, starting a new game still causes a crash.

There's also a slight, brief stutter to the intro music after "New" is clicked.

Don't know if that will help, but there it is.

EDIT: Just to be clear: .991 crashes to the desktop after clicking "New" from the main screen.  Old .0983 saved games will load, and do not crash.  And no, I don't play old saved games with newer beta iterations, but I was curious what would happen if you tried them out, given that a new game wouldn't run.

Really sounds like your files got mixed up. Maybe you should do a uninstall and re-install.

Please try the following:

1. Delete your "C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - Fallen Enchantress\Screens\" directory and restart to see if it fixed the issue.

2. If it didn't please rename your "..\My Documents\My Games\FallenEnchantress" directory to "..\My Documents\My Games\FallenEnchantress.old" and restart.

Please let us know if either of those 2 things resolves the issue, thanks for your help and I apologize for the inconvienance.

Did last night, after the update crashed.  No difference, this morning, but thanks for the suggestion.

Derek, thanks for the quick response.  Your first suggestion didn't work, but your second did.  After renaming the Fallen Enchantress directory, a new one was auto-generated, and the game easily proceeded to the screen for choosing a sovereign.  I went on a bit further to world generation, and that went without a hitch.
