[0.99] Why are there two different monuments in the game?

Why are these two different buildings have the same name?

One is the city building +1 zone of control and the other the resource +1 influence.

They use the same name when being built and in the city building list.

I think it has been stated before, but it is true...one of them should change the name to avoid confusion. For example, the +1 ZoC could be a Watch Tower, or something like that.

This is likely to confuse a new user.

The +1 ZOC actually looks like a statue and really should be called a monument. The monument built upon the prestigious location looks like a manor house or castle looking. the one that should be renamed is the monument on the prestigious location.

I would call it a manor house myself, just by the looks. Maybe a consulate.

I'd say call the one built on prestigious location a "Marker" or a "Museum"

A monument sounds more to me to something related to prestige and influence, rather than to a building that expands ZoC.

Anyway, calling "Statue", "sculpture" or similar to the +1 ZoC (just because it looks like it) is enough to point the difference.

I think there have been some other posts remarking this same name for two different buildings. I'm sure that, after release, there will be more questions and complains about it...so why not fixing it ASAP?

I agree... the "statue" is increasing influence (just not the resource influence). The other is generating influence for political usage, hence why I suggested calling it a consulate, something that helps you generate better negotiation skills.

I think Derek should have a "Rename the Monument" contest and offer a new video card to the winner.

I'll offer:

Colosseum

Arches

Tribute

Landmark (on prestigious location).

Change both to 'Thing-a-ma-bob' and 'Whatcha-ma-callit', respectively.  This will dispel all confusion.

I like Landmark or Museum.

I like Landmark as well, and will also accept changing the name of the statue Monument to Statue.

Yep, good suggestion. I'd go for Landmark too.
