[0.983] CTD before main menu

*sigh* Still cannot get FE to run on my machine. Crashes out during the opening movie before the main menu even comes up. Beta 2 and 3 worked fine, everything since Beta 4 has had the same issue for me. 

I've tried the options others in the forums have suggested... deleting various folders from the FE directory in Documents/MyGames/FallenEnchantress and in C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - Fallen Enchantress. Tried deleting those whole folders. Tried obliterating every trace of the FE and reinstalling. All with the same result.

I would imagine that there is some odd hardware conflict going on at this point, but I am unsure of what. Running Win7 64-bit with fairly recent video drivers (gaming laptop so the latest and greatest revisions generally don't work).

What's odd is that it's crashing when it unhides the bink window.  Beta 2 and 3 didn't have an intro movie.

Try this:

Go into your program files(x86)\stardock games\elemental\movies folder

Move all those videos out to somewhere else.  Doesn't matter where, just somewhere else.

Then try it.

Thanks for the suggestion Brad. I have to imagine that trying to bust all these types of bugs is the most annoying part of game development.

Results:

Test 1:

Moving just the following bik files has no effect. Same crash at the same moment...

In addition to the above, also moved Intro.bik out. Still crashed, but got a little further - I could see the main menu and got the popup for "Do you want to auto login"

Test 3:

Moving all bik files out.

As in Test 2, can see the main menu (no "Do you want to auto login" message) this time, but then crash. When I say I can see the main menu - that's all I see (plus in the lower left the message about Ctrl-Tab to overlay). I do not see title graphics with Elemental - Fallen Enchantress. Not sure how that page is composed, but I would imagine there is supposed to be something else besides the menu shown - so thought I'd mention that.

1.0 gave the same issue. I decided to try to beta NVidia drivers and have had success. I'm currently using the 310.33 beta ones (formerly using 302.59) and everything seems to be working well. Enjoying the release version of FE quite a bit!
