suggestion for fortress settlements

The balance of the game seems better, however the build queues are slowing everything up a lot. I thought if the fortress settlement got its seperate build que back for training units that would help a lot. Perhaps conclave settlemenst could have a seperate build queue for magical units and towns could get build queues for utility and defender type units.

I also had this idea. And agree with you. Forts would be interesting and important choice.

How do you tell which units are "magical"?  What makes a unit a "utility" unit?  Given that a huge feature of the game is troop customization, you would have to decide which item or group of items would make a decide these things, and then code them.  And then have to deal with the unending arguments online over why such-and-such combination of items is incorrectly coded, or why blah should instead be coded as blurgh.

I would like a more GalCivII-like build queue, that rewarded you for focusing exclusively on building troops or improvements, but that's a whole new feature, and we're too far along in the beta for that :(

A second queue for fortresses would be awesome.

Would this mean fortresses would produce twice as much as other cities?
While that could be the benefit from a fortress, it seems as a bit much, that said fortress upgrades are really time-taking to build.

I like this idea a lot. Giving the different types of settlements diverse functional capabilities is far more interesting than bonus modifiers.

Kongdej: I think he means adding separate queue's for structures/units for these types of settlements.

Yea I know, but that would theoretically unless otherwise put together double the construction, nothing wrong with that though. I find myself limited by gildar income more than production on how many units I can have.

Ever play Galactic Civilizations 2?  It had 2 production queues, but if you had both of them running you'd only get half production in each queue.  You took the same number of turns to get things done, it was just easier to have concurrent projects going.  I'd like to see that brought into this game, production penalty and all.

For a very very short time, was not really fun to me.

Hm, that's an ok system, but hardly worth it (Seasoned Starcraft players always thinks about what is worth what ;))
Also sounds a little like a UI/managment upgrade, you would need the UI to reflect this though.

I am always in for UI upgrades ;) as long as they don't clutter stuff up ofcourse.

perhaps your right about utility and magical units being too much of a bother to program in at this point, but i really think the extra build queue for the fortress would help a lot since it's only for units. This feels equal in power to me to +1 essence. Perhaps put it in as a level 3 building, but then i would always pick it.  I think it should be part of the package of being a fortress town.

If it should be added as a bonus build queue, I think it should replace the fortress level bonus to trained units, it would be a very viable upgrade, you could then add the level bonus on the "Training Yards" instead of a raw accuracy bonus, actually making the +accuracy trait in the unit designer viable again.
