[.981][crash] on next turn at start of game

Had problem installing beta-5 on my old XP box, so I uninstalled, nuked all leftover files except prefs.ini, and re-installed from saved downloads...

0.75  ->  0.915  ->  0.952  ->    0.981_C2

On the c2 update I got a funny error message that I didn't catch, but I also got an update-successful message under it.  Event viewer had this to say     "Faulting application install.exe, version 9.0.30729.1, faulting module install.exe, version 9.0.30729.1, fault address 0x0003f014."

Now, trying to play, I get a crash on next-turn ending turn 2.

If nothing comes up here, I'll try uninstalling / reinstalling again later this weekend.

If I understand you correctly, you're using downloads from earlier versions.  There's no guarantee of compatibility.  Since this is C3, try starting a new game.

No, starting new game after updating to current version.  Only did the incremental install to save downloading the whole file.  Basically re-installed by doing the fast-forward version of what most of us have probably been doing over the last year -- install an early full version, then apply updates in sequence.

Un-installed and re-installed again and got the same error installing the update to the "_c2" version.

Sequence was

un-install

install   FallenEnchantress-0.75_beta_setup.exe

update  to 0.915, then 0.950, then 0.980, then     FallenEnchantress-0.981_update_setup_c2.exe

That final update gave error screens like     https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8928343/error-screens.doc      note that the 1st screens says error and the last screen says success -- that looks like a bug regardless.

The windows errors led to this appcompat.txt file with more details     https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8928343/a880_appcompat.txt

This time I forgot to clean out the leftover files after the uninstall.  Either because of that or the extra 0.980 which I bypassed last time, when I try to run it I just get a solid black screen.  This is the exact same issue I had with an earlier 0.98x version which drove me to un-install in the first place.

Sigh.   Un-installed again; nuked stray files under my documents & appdata; downloaded the full 2.79GB file, and did a clean install.

Early in the install it gave an error message and said it had to close (I think that was just after the message saying it was installing the 2005 C++ redistributable).  When I closed that message the install proceeded instead of actually closing, and eventually claimed to have succeeded.

Ran the game, registered ok, and then it went to a blank/black screen, exactly like an earlier 0.98x did before I ever uninstalled.  That is the exact original problem I've been doing all this to try to fix.  Current/recent versions seem hopelessly unable to run on this XP box.    (Haven't tried current version on my Win-7 box yet, maybe tomorrow)
