[098] Starting position with nowhere to settle - Now with savegame

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8523102/NoResources.EleSav

Started a game as Altar and could not see anywhere to settle at all around the starting position. Walked for a couple of rounds to east and west and still found nothing. Should not happen I guess?

Started a new game. Same thing happened. I play as Altar, large map, hard AI and dense monsters. 7 opponents

Tried a ctrl-n to try for the third time.(between my first and second try I restarted the whole game). Game crashed.

Tried a couple of more times with fewer opponents. Still no luck. Game over for me......

You should buy a lottery ticket. Maybe you will be just as lucky.

That is a problem.

Try setting the land to temperate with dense resources.

I have had this happen to me.  Not six times in a row.  I actually played a couple of these games out.  It took about 10 turns just to find someplace to settle both times.  It really puts you at a disadvantage.  They were fun games though.

I now have 10 in a row, must be a bug. Have not seen a single spot to settle in 098. Turned down difficulty, but it did not help

Very unlucky.

I just loaded up beta 5, started on a 4/2/1 tile. Not amazing but not bad.

Walked around for 13 seasons with sov + hero (different directions). Still NOTHN...

Worked fine for me as well, first start up and had a good spot (4/2/2) right off the bat (Large, swamp, 4 opponents, all opposite faction), can only say I hope you have better luck next time

Are you playing with mods enabled? I wonder if there's some conflict for you.

No mods

Restarted PC and tried yet again. Got a startposition where every tile I could see was green. It was perfect, except there were no possible way to settle...

I have had very few problems/crashes since the first beta version so this is a bit of a surprise. Its a real downer as I play this game almost every day and love it.

There does seem to be a bug with the display.  I've had a settler walk to a spot and have the display of the yields disappear before they get there.  When I sttle there anyways, it gives me the yields that were originally displayed.

The settle button is grey so its more than just not showing the 4/3/1 (or whatever).

I added a savegame. Please feel free to try it.

Thanks for the save game, i loaded it up.

You definitly dont have any tile yields anywhere.  It isn't that there isn't fertile land, there is plently of it.  There is a bug keeping it from giving yields.

I suspect that you had some modified xml that is causing this (your tile yields aren't the same as my tile yields).  XML is stored in the save file so I can definitely see the issue.  We are working on a new installer than will overwrite all your local xml data and resolve this, if that is the issue.

ALL YOUR XML ARE BELONG TO US!

This is the first beta where we don't stream our XML.

So I think it's going to take a beta update (or two) to improve the installer to not rely on us force feeding our XML onto customers.

In the mean time, he could run the full installer instead of the update installer. Couldn't he?

Yes, unisntall/reinstall should fix it.
