[crash][.98] cant start any game at all

Im in the same boat and hoping they will post what the fix was.  I made a post myself that turned into 2 posts!  Not sure how that happened other than the first post I made never showed so I made another and then boom it appeared...sigh.

I can confirm this bug: as soon as you start a new game (after choosing a sovereign) the game crashes. This is both for existing sovereigns and after creating a custom sovereign.

I tried both as well and boom...crash everytiime...even get that little of a music hiccup which to me means CTD!!

have you tried emptying out your folders in \mygames\fallenenchantress ? 

It's done the trick for me before.  Whether its old saves or messed up prefs.ini..  *shrug*  But I had to do that last two patches. 

The fix is to delete everything in your "C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - Fallen Enchantress\Screens\" directory.

Just a small comment: the main screen menu's font is quite blurry. Painful on the eyes. My resolution is 1920x1080, if that matters.

Just me popping in to tell you about some ways mods can crash the game at that precise time. If you didn't mod this doesn't apply to you.

First, if you have the mod Stormworld_Rivermod installed, remove it because it causes the game to crash at that time without updating TerrainTypes.xml in installation directory. Get the new version uploaded.

Second, if you used any custom factions previously (from Stormworld_ExpandedFactions) but then deleted the mod, make sure you empty out My Documents\My Games\FallenEnchantress\Units of all custom sovereigns.

Going to uninstall and do a clean install of the new update.  Not sure if this might mean anything but when I went to control panel to uninstall...I noticed(after i hit uniinstall) that FE was still on the .952 version there and not the updated 980 version.  By the time I noticed it, it was too late, but thought i mention that.

 Wow that worked by uninstalling and then re installing with the full version.  Im in game and playing.

Sounds like you guys need to work on the install process a bit more. I'd hate to see an otherwise excellent game get marred because the installer didn't do a good job installing over older versions.

We're exploring whether one of the data files isn't getting replaced properly. If anyone can still reproduce this, please email kwilas at stardock.com the FallenEnchantressPatchLog.txt and data\english\ElementalDefs.xml files from \program files\stardock games\fallenenchantress. 

Yes, a completely clean install would probably also be happy. Though give us a little bit here and save redownloading 2.7GB.

The fix of deleting the contents of the screens folder did not work for me.  I click my sovereign, click next, then on the world screen, i click next one more time and crash. 

edit - i sent the 2 files.  and i do live in the us, great lakes region (northern indiana).

I still have trouble. Emailed as requested. Hopefully you can help

  For those having the issue, please test the following exe (backup your old one and then place this one in your "\\Program Files\Stardock Games\FallenEnchantress\" directory.

  HenriHaki, thanks you for the logs.  It looks like you updated your ElementalDefs.xml to be able to give your sovereign's 12 customization points.  Because of that the installer didn't see a version of ElementalDefs that it recognized and it skipped the file (the installer only has byte level differences, it doesnt have the complete file contents).  Since that file was not updated you didn't get a 0.980 version of ElementalDefs which is causing your crash.

  The above FallenEnchantress.exe should fix the crash.  But doesn't fix the issue that you are still using the 0.962 version of ElementalDefs (with your change).

Hi Derek, I tried the alternate exe. No success, still crashes for me.

Ah, strange. I don't run mods - nor have I modified any of the game files.

I'll just go ahead and download the full game and install again.

K, thanks.  We are making a patch that overwrites all the xml so that we won't run into these issues.  It should be available shortly.

i was the one who attempted to give 12 creation points (to diversify custom civ's) and that seems to be correct.  i will uninstall and reinstall clean to reset those numbers and try again.
