When fighting Torax, it appears that counterspelling the initial cast of Titan's Breath prevents Torax from ever moving a second time. Either that or the slow spells just made him never get that move before he died.
Also, it took me three times to kill him and have the game NOT crash immediately after. The third game was the only time that I didn't open with a counterspell.
