Heroes, Troops and that Governor thing

Having played a number of games I have a couple of suggestions regarding troops and heroes.

When troops are grouped with heroes give them each a bonus:

  • Increase the movement of non-mounted troops by 1
  • Increase the attack of all troops by 5ish
  • Increase the defense of all troops by 3ish
  • Increase the Heroes attack and defense by 1 for each troop under command.

Troops with leadership are better and more tempting to keep in a group.  Non-mounted troops are hustling a bit more, being able to move 2-3 squares with a hero and (slow) troops would be a big improvement.  The Hero's bonus would be helpful but not too great.

For the governor ability, be able to attach it to a town of choice, but have it work at 33-50% when the hero is not in town as they are governing by liaison.   Newly conquered towns could only be governable by sitting in them for the first 10-15 turns of ownership.

Just some thoughts, keep up the good work!

Cheers

Why would you increase troop effectiveness and hero effectiveness?  I can see that as a specific set of skills/traits, but why do it in general?

I like your town governorship idea, but I would reduce it to 10-15% when not there.

To reflect that the troops and heroes work better when grouped.  To give some incentive to do so.  If you don't group them nothing has changed.  You can have your hero group traversing the countryside, and your units slowly filling towns.  The AI is already fairly effective at combining troops and heroes,  they would get a little boost and it could promote the need for the player to respond similarly if so inclined.

Any of the numbers could be tweaked and give room for traits that boost those areas.

Can't you mod that in?

I'd change the governor bonus to work 100% when in a town and slowly ween off after they leave (speed depending on how good of a governor they are, maybe 2-10 turns). I think assigning governors would become too much micro-management and require unnecessary UI work.

Regarding grouping troops to heroes, I think your idea would work better within a trait (like Commander) rather then a broad bonus. Some heroes are leaders, others are not.
