[.952] AI questions

How smart is the strategic AI currently? Is it able to use strategic spells efficiently? Should I expect my whole army to be wiped by strategic spells? Should I expect my cities to be cursed by the AI? Is the AI capable of using Curgeon's Volcano for example? Is the AI capable of pursuing the quest and the spell victories?

I have played only one game of FE and I pretty much dominated my opponents on Challenging difficulty, so maybe they didn't have time to pursue these victory paths. And they were low on mana, maybe that's why I haven't seen any strategic spells.

You shouldn't expect any of those things, expect to win.

Increase the difficulty every game until you lose one.

Go to Hard difficulty and set Monsters to dense. It helps a bit, but the world will still be a bit quiet (except for wolves and mites everywhere)

Well if I can use strategic spells to wipe out entire armies and cities and the AI can't, that's quite a disadvantage, isn't it? I don't want to increase the difficulty because above Challenging the AI gets bonuses. Surely they must have implemented a smart strategic AI because people have been complaining about it since War of Magic.

So did anyone witness the AI doing any of the things I asked?

Oh and also, is the AI capable of using the Raise Land spell to make his way across water?

Unfortunately I haven't seen much development in this area - ocasionally the AI announces they've cursed one of my cities but curse city is a hideous waste of mana - I've never seen spells like freeze, tornado etc being used.

I do remember Curgen's volcano being used against me but that was in WOM - I can't even find the spell in FE.

The AI DOES use strategic buff enchantments on units, champs and cities though so there has been some development in strategic spells - however I have seen cities that have been unenchanted possibly due to a lack of mana

I worry that the AI has been programmed to repeatedly cast spells like celerity thus completely shooting itself in the foot but I'm not sure - maybe one of these games I'll closely monitor AI mana use in a high mana game.

edit - I havent seen the AI use terraforming spells but they could always do this out of visibility

Overall I feel this is a weak area of the AI

They got the AI in WoM to use Curgeon's Volcano? Cool! I loved WoM after 1.2 and I played it a lot but I've never seen the AI do that.

I did indeed see the AI use strategic buffs, but no strategic offensive spells. I haven't seen Curgeon's Volcano in FE either, even though I remember it being mentioned in previews. Maybe they haven't implemented it yet, maybe they just haven't got to the strategic AI as a whole yet.
