What controls army size with main character/hero (newbie question)

My main character can only have 5 soliders in her army (2 champions; an archver and 2 mages; in case that matters).

I thought something like influence could be used to increase an army size but the size has not changed from since she was level 1 to now (level 10 or 11 or maybe 12).  Is there a way for me to increase the army size (or even tell what the max size is)

Check the Techs you can research. There are those which increase Group Size Options (when building) but also those which increase maximum army size.

Certain Technologies upgrade the armysize, you will know this by a little "black wing" as an upgrade symbol.
