some spell suggestions for FE (life and death shards)

OK it seems to me that death magic is only worth taking for a mage type champ/sov as all the curses are unreliable unless you have high spell mastery. I was thinking that it would be good to have some spells that would be good for warrior sovs that just want to dip into death magic. So here's  a couple of suggestions

 

1) soul harvest - an enchantment that gives a tears of cyndrum effect to the unit - basically this would be the death shard counterpart to regeneration, which is extremely good and I feel that death should get a counterpart to compensate - they could have it scaling with death shards too

 

2) aura of malice - a death city enchantment that gives trained units improved critical chances (scales with *essence* edit)

 

These 2 spells should give death a bit more utility for non-mage soveriegns.

 

to compensate for these 2 spells life magic could get a low level 'curse' type spell:

3) pacify - tactical curse where target enemy unit misses their next turn unless they resist - scales with life shards so that they miss additional turns if opponent has multiple life shards

 

It would be nice if death has the ability to create zombies too - maybe death master unit enchantment where humanoid units slain by enchanted unit come back as low level zombie units at the end of a battle victory, the zombies should be fairly weak but handy as maintenance free garrisons and for wave attacks

 

Anyway just some thoughts - what life and death spells do the rest of you guys want to see added to the game?

 

Currently life magic seems better for low level champs as it doesnt rely on spell mastery

This is my opinion but Dark is better than Life at current state of things.  I would like to see life get a first strike spell or another tactical type spell that would give attack and defence like a 2 point bump (+1 for each life shard ).  Then a mass version for level 4 or 5 spell.  I would also like to see one race get ability to "bless shards" which would be the opposite of corrupt shards.  Instead of turning a shard into a death shard, it'd be life. 

Good call on pacify.  I like it.

I think death magic is very good with Ceresa and Resoln but it doesnt help warlord Verga very much nor any other warrior based sovs as it relies on good spell mastery. Life magic on the other hand is good to dip into for any kingdom sovereign for regeneration if nothing else.

I think bless shards would be good for a new kingdom rather than the existing 4 and it could come with a package of extra life spells (like Resoln's trait gives 4/5 death spells) - something along the lines of martial prowess backed up by strong clerics.

Yeah if I was playing Verga I'd take earth for the Stoneskin.  I think Magnar is more suited towards fire.  Krax I treat like Verga (more warrior type leader than spellslinger ).  The whole thing is predominately stacked in Ceresa's favor with the changing of shards. 

Still,  Life needs some help.

I disagree life is very powerful as is. Besides getting regeneration and heal you also gain other even more powerful spells like shrink and growth. Don't underestimate these two spells. Using shrink against powerful creatures drastically decreases their attack and if you then cast a growth spell on a powerful worrier champ or sov. you then have a huge advantage. Not to mention the call to arms spell. Granted having plenty of money allows you to hurry units without bothering with said spell but if you want to save your gold for another project and you have plenty of mana sitting around... The life spell that makes a unit come back to life if they are killed is very useful under the right circumstances as well. Finally the healing and regeneration spells scale up as you gain more life shards. Overall life magic is quite powerful especially if used in conjugation with a hero/sov. worrier. If I were to suggest a new spell for life magic though I would suggest a spell that only damages undead and demons for a small amount of damage that scales upward with the number of life shards you own. I would call said spell, unoriginally, "Smite Evil".

Drain Life will always be greater than heal, because you do damage to something and get hp in 1 spell.  Curse is also a powerful spell taking away a unit's defence.  There's even mass curse. 

 

Maybe death should get shrink (do unto others)  while life keeps growth.

Drain life comes at death 3 wheras heal comes at life 2. Also drain life has a casting time and can be resisted so I don't think it's clearly better than heal.

 

I think shrink is fine in life - it's one of the few spells in life that requires spell mastery, pretty much all of their spells ignore things like spell resistance and counterspell
