What size map should I optimize for?

What size map should I optimize for?

When I'm play testing the game, I ultimately have to pick "a size" when I'm playing with the AI.

I know the forums aren't an ideal way to measure this (in fact, we should just send this data back really) but I wanted to get an informal gauge on what people play at.

Largest possible.

On a related topic: There was a map generator for war of magic, called Elementerra IIRC, that allowed me to pre-create a map to play on, and it was possible to create very large maps. I absolutely loved to play on those.

Would it be possible to include an option for such large maps with Fallen enchantress? Even if it is not part of the normal game UI(i understand huge maps can be detrimental to game performance so you may not want people choosing them if they don't know what they are getting themselves into), having an option to enable huge maps through editing an INI file or something would be very welcome!

I always play on huge (large) balanced map, 8 players, expert difficulty and dense monsters. Pacing is sometimes normal, sometimes epic. The rest of the settings are set on normal default.

When first testing a new build I'll typically pick all default settings (medium map) to see what the developer's intended experience was supposed to feel like, so to answer your question I'd expect the game to be optimised for the default settings (whatever they end up as).

Once completed I'll move to a smaller map with max AI for quicker games to test for specific issues. If this were released I'd play large or above with max AI for casual games, and small maps with Max AI for competition.

Always play on large (in fact, i find the large map in FE to be ridicilously small).

Is Large the biggest possible, or will there be a "huge" (or equivalent) setting once the full game releases ?

I am also a Large map player. The larger the better - gives more opportunities to expand (unless I'm stuck on a peninsular at the bottom of the map with only 2 city building areas available) and explore. Means I don't have to needlessly go to war at the beginning, just to get more land to settle. More time for war later in the game. }:)

I play 50/50 on medium and large.

If you intend to ever add in an extra large mode with a 64 bit exe, I suggest optimizing for large. Then again, you might want to change the AI when that happens so not sure if thats even worth considering.

50/50 medium and large. World AI and Faction AI challenging, the rest is normal. Me + 3 other factions on medium maps and me + 5 other factions on large maps. This gives me time to expand before i have to deal with the AI, which is always expanding like hell.

I have a preference for medium. Play large too, but medium would be the best testing environment I think.

So far 18 for large and 11 for medium with a couple mixed between medium\large

Small or medium.
Beyound that it doesn't add nothing more for me to the game personally except more cities to manage and troops to shuffle around.

Large please.  Or larger.

I would play on smaller maps but half the land is taken up with throw-away "cliffs" along the ocean.  Those tiles are absolutely pointless and should be removed (see Elementerra).

Largest map. I've never ever played on anything smaller. The map isn't that "large" anyways. Please optimize for it B)

I vote for MEDIUM.  Please count that vote twice.

I play on small maps with 4 players. I like early action, and I dislike the late-game micromanagement of larger maps (experience from other turn based strategy games).

It depends on what you are optimizing.

Performance then it is probably best to go for large.

AI then I would want you to optimize medium. I mostly play medium because I find large has too many cities for me to micro manage. I like to top out at around 10-12 cities at most with roughly the same number of outposts. Any more and it is too hard to track what is going on. Your 'fire shrine in the south east' getting destroyed can take 2 or 3 minutes to find. When you go to a city for production you have to try and remember your goal for the city.

I would also imagine (as someone else stated) that the new players you want to buy this game will probably start on medium, therefore make it the most consistent fun.

Medium, challenging, 4-5 enemies, epic, 3-6 beers, one strong smoke before the game starts and several throughout the night until I pass out at the keyboard.  Haven't won the game yet in Beta 4, but I doubt that's any fault of Froggy's.

I play on Medium (standard) because the victory conditions are such that playingon a large map will take too long to mop up.   I would prefer a large map or bigger, but only if the end game was good to play, rather than mindlessly going from city to city because 50 turns ago I got a power edge over them and have been steamrolling since.  On standard the mop up is fairly short.

Big maps! The biggest!

Largest map. To be honest the current large map is quite medium itself when compared with other strategy games. Also on the current large map while playing with 8 sovs, your neighbors's capital cities are always quite close. It would totally be worth adding a huge map option.

Argh !  No !     Testing on small & medium means that large-map issues don't get found & fixed.  And it shows.

I vote for large.

I play large for my fun games (so most of the post release games will be this).   for testing now, I play small or medium.
