Capitols -

(Good idea?, more I think on it, more I like it)

What if the capitols were a combination of all three city types, then they would certainly stand out.  The people that have a difficult time in the start would have their extra defence options as a fortress, mages could concentrate more on the conclave like options, the capitol would be able to tax & grow like a town

In 'almost' every instance I can think of, in both reality & fantasy kingdom stories, the capitol is THE largest city in the realm.  By being able to build every building (or those offered by the three city distinctions), it guarantees you wanting to protect your capitol

Currently your first city can be really strong if you connect all the resources to it... I don't even make more than one city in my games. They NEED to make multiple cities worth it, and that means making your first city not be more powerful than the rest. Even with this new system, I could imagine only creating 3 cities.

We already have 1 per faction buildings which let you create 1 super city if you want. I could also see a certain faction, such as Magnar, having special buildings for their main city since culturally its more important to them (with the population bonus).

I think lone city gaming would be a miss on Stardock's part....and creating the 'capital' would most certainly push towards that end of the spectrum.

I like the way how FE now (as soon as beta 4 is released) requires at least 3 cities to be built to maximize your empire's potential.

I don't think adding a 4th 'captial' type would do anything for the game.

As UmbralAngel brielfly touched on, I would sooner see faction-specific special buildings be made available only to your capital. Things that aren't necessarily overly-abusive....but rather just enough to make your capital the most important city in your empire.

A few non-specific buildings could also be available to your capital, like your castle, warcouncil etc.

They specifically said in the beta 4 preview that the lone city strategy is not something they want. Actually, what they said was that they are attempting to design the game so that you benefit from playing with several cities. I asked about how they will rein in city-spam but there was no answer. Some players said that faction prestige will help with that.

So they go with a more is better strategy. Makes sense from a 4x perspective, but I will be modding in single city options. Ivory Towers Mod will set up your capital as an impenetrable fortress. Each city you build or capture after that will get serious penalties. You will never have a second city functioning above level 2. Captured cities will get a permanent 50% unrest, mostly serving as population centers for your profane experiments. The great thing about FE is that many things can be added with mods that some players feel are necessary.

Say someone wanted to add 100 new summons, for instance.  :ninja:
