Just had 2 run-thru of a fight which hung early on when a bad-guy militia wouldn't do anything on his turn.
Sequence: save, cast paragon, attack city, hang, win but suffer losses, reload, repeat

I've had seemingly random hangs in tactical battles as well, and re-loading the save didn't fix the problem (it actually made things worse... the armies/objects/cities etc., on the 2D map disappeared) I had to completely quit to desktop and restart the game. Seems exactly like the same memory leak problem E:WoM had on release... I'll make a seperate bug report about it I guess.
Anything which causes a bug or memory leak causes a bug or memory leak. Just because it might be a bug or memory leak, does not mean that it is the same reason for it, for most of the engine has been rewritten between WOM and FE and even during FE.
Notice I said "seems" like the same memory leak problem, ie. it occured while/after doing the very same process in E:WoM and that I'd make a seperate bug report about it.

Hangs in tactical battles generally stem from animation issues and the multithread priorities I think. One way to work around them is to click on a character image on the left of the screen. This will bring up that unit's info screen. Then press enter to exit the info screen. Do this a few times until the animation is over. It will play bit by bit while the game opens the info screen. It's a dirty fix, but it works for now.
