Horses- Issues and Questions.

Hi I'm a noob at this game still trying to figure it out. However I have some issues with horse's that I thing ought to be retictfied in some manner one of these patches.

Number 1 Henchman and Horses: I can understand if you guys don't want to give them horses but what I really don't like is that they don't say something like "This unit cannot ride" or something to prevent 200 glidar loss on trying to get my shieldman a horse. :annoyed:

Number 2 Warhorses: I understand that Capitar units get warhorses what I don't understand is why my custom soverign for Capitar can't buy a warhorse. So could you please make Capitar able to buy warhorses it would save on my heroes time that other factions gain when they get they're horses.

Number 3 Horses too much of a good thing: There is currently no penalty for having a horse. Like when two hero's on horse's can easily defeat about 9 spearmen there is something wrong with that. Horse's need a hard counter something that will make spearmen, and hence other infantry, more viable.

Number 4 Horses need some love: The calvary in this game has yet to be nearly anywhere as unique as horses where in our past. They need some new tech's to enrich this aspect of gameplay. Such as traits for the horses, upgrading mounts, specfic armor and weapons for mounts (wargs need some love too), and give hero mounts heroic abilities and leveling. Kinda like henchmen but one rides it instead.

Other than this and a few bugs I've been seeing (and seen reported) I really like this game. I blame Sean3w and Das111 and Trudjy for getting me hooked on this. ^_^ . Hopefully I will have more meaningful input next time I start a topic.

KingJerkera, until they fix the warhorse bug, you can go shopping for horses in another faction's lands.  You won't get a warhorse that way, but at least your champions will avoid footsores.

Like this post, mostly because I thought horses were stupid too (Am holding a break from FE atm. I tend to get too focused when playing 1 game too much, then I go in and is too hardcore about my comments xD, so keeping breaks between playing makes me a noob each time xD

Said this in another thread, I want more counter abilities against what we have right now, while the weapons new special abilities (swords got counter attack, axes got backswing etc) I feel they are not what I feel is the best (Also because of the way they implemented every 2nd monster you meet is immune to counter attacks, nearly no monster counter-attacks, and there are no responses to mounts, mauling, or overpower effects.

@Tuidjy I didn't know that, so thanks  . However I still would like to equip my soverign one of these days... btw love your playthroughs although I don't know what one needs to summon and cast the arcane monolith..

@Kongdej It isn't that I think that they're stupid they're just not complete yet and we definatly need to see a hard counter. And who doesn't just hate life when a cave bear gets a magic number maul attacks that kill a unit. Personally I like how things have been built up, but we definatly need to fill in some serious gaps of combat and such. So I kinda agree.

You can still get Warhorses WITHOUT Legacy of Serrane by connecting a Stables inside a city's borders (so it needs to be absorbed by the city).

as for horses- they should double maintenance costs for troops.

As for a hard counter- spear units  should have a cavalry foe trait available (+DEF vs mounted) , as should defender heroes.

Archery should have an accuracy penalty unless you get a horse archer trait (Should be assassin/warrior)

I think its a bad idea to both have spears counter high armor, and mounted units btw.

A trait unlocked in the warfare tech tree allowing spear-armed troops defensive bonuses (or ability) vs mounted units might be a workable solution.

Oh, is THAT how it comes about? I've been trying to get my head around it for ages. In recent games I've had one occasion when I can randomly buy a warhorse (as Capitar and as Altar, Yithril, Umber), from my own territory and other factions', and then other times not. Very confusing, thanks for the tip!

It only applies near the city that has the Stable integrated.  In other cities just the basic horses are available.

@StevenAus Wow that's even better news! .

And what is with this talk of defense against mounted units? Why not have a trait that does 33% more damage against units larger than oneself? That way spears can now kill two birds with one stone when it comes to heavy calvary. Why not a Trait that can cripple intiative and move with a chance % during a normal attack? I so want to see a game where i'm terrified that their pikemen will come and decimate my calvary if i'm not paying attention.
