Playing Beta offline

Hey all,

I just wanna say I am really liking Fallen Enchantress and want to thank Stardock for allowing me to get it for free (I think I was the only one who had pre-ordered War of Magic in South Dakota haha). But anyway, I was just wondering if there was a way to play the beta offline? I understand the reasoning for but/crash purposes. When I'm home I have a good internet connection so I am always connected. But I work in North Dakota drilling oil and live on the rig for about 3-4 weeks at a time and the internet up there is sketchy at best. Is there a command line prompt or something I can use??

Yes, it is possible. I dont remember excactly how, but I believe that you add -localdataonly after the path to your exe file in the shortcut. Do a search on the forums. It has been discussed before.

I would be curious to know as well, but it may be better to email support and ask them directly and explain your situation.

Hi sdsmit05 we are glad you are enjoying the beta.

 

But while the game is still in beta it will require a constant internet connection, there is no way around that.

 

Once the game comes out you will be able to play the game in offline mode.

The link shows how to get around the internet connection issue. I always use -localdataonly for modding and the like. I think it is a bug that you can simply click anywhere on the screen or press escape to get passed the log in message. 

 

If this is not intended, you guys should be aware that it is quite easy to get around the internet connection thing. Maybe it would be good to patch this up?

Thanks to all the replies. I did a search for it on the forums already but must not have done it good enough. I will do a little more digging. But if the Stardock support said it isn't possible I will have to probably lean towards playing War of Magic 1.4 with a couple of mods installed (it's no Fallen Enchantress but will have to tide me over I guess when I'm working haha)

Sigh. This sounds VERY disappointing.

Don't get me wrong, 'offline' mode is good and necessary.

It's just that word is quite disturbing as it is used with Steam. You are making me very afraid.

please please please have offline mode as the default....thus logging online to a server to play multiplayer. The other way is just so irritating.

Don't worry, offline mode is intended to be the normal state. MP won't even me an option until a while after release. The game will never check for access other than to connect to the MP servers. There is no current plan to have Steam run the MP either as far as we know. Steam is purely a 3rd party seller.
