[915] What exactly am I trading with tech knowledge?

Tech knowledge doesn't seem to be affected by perceived values, the computer likes 1:1 trades for tech, but what exactly is being traded? Are the numbers listed under my assets the total points achieved in that area? Am I offering points towards their next research in that area?

It looked to me like it didn't do anything, at least not for me.  Please tell me I wasn't just giving research to the bad guys.

Please.

I believe you are trading research points.  I usually see some progress in a tech that I haven't researched after doing a trade.

I think that the points get evenly (or randomly?) distributed among all unresearched upgrades that you have the capacity to research.

Considering that after doing some trades I saw things I'd not yet tried to research around 25% I think that is how it works.

It is research points redistributed "randomly" (seems random anyways) in the certain tree, if you trade for magic knowledge, it is research points redistributed in the magic tree.

This is to replace a tech trading system, and I am happy they got this idea, because when you know how it works its quite interesting.

Try midgame to check out your warfare tree, then trade for 200-300 warfare knowledge and check it again, to see the processes of the techs advance.
This will only apply to techs that you can currently start researching btw.

I used to think it should prioritize researched you've started.  But now I think the random allocation makes more sense.  I mean, who knows what it is you will learn from the yokels from across the river?  How to sharpen sticks 10% faster...or how to tell a stallion from a nag.

AHH, just had an idea... why not a pop-up after a trade?  You have learned X points for tech A, Y points for tech B....etc.  Just to help since...for one you may not have initiated the trade so you may not have had the idea to check your tree out before hand...and you may not know what tech they have available to trade.

very neat point and a fantastic idea, let the game show me what exactly I got from my trade.

Yeah, i did some trading and if you trade for tech in which you are currently researching in, then it goes towards your current research project.

If you trade for tech outside of your current research field it allocates the points towards something next in the branch for that area.

ie. I traded for warfare points, and it took 2 seasons off Archery. I already had Blacksmithing researched at the same level so the only other option would have been Warg Riding.
