City Growth? 915

Can someone please explain how population growth works?  I have done some searching on the forums but can't find an adequate explanation for 915.  I have a game going where I have 9 cities and all of them are level 1 with 0.6 growth.  There doesn't seem to be anything I can do to speed this up.  I have built every building possible in ever city.  All of the growth enhancing buildings require level 2 cities.

You have too many cities. Your population growth (before buildings) is split between all your cities. Raze some cities or better start again and focus on building 2-3 cities and use your pioneers to build outposts instead.

You could also try to get more prestige, either from techs, leveling your sov (prestige bonus is level/2) or getting more "path of the governor" champions. There's also some buildings that raise prestige, but they're mostly for level 2 and up cities so they wouldn't help you much right now.

If you plan on getting a lot of cities, try Altar and do a LOT of quests.  +1 prestige per quest means that, without really trying too hard, you get about 30 prestige by midgame.  I'm playing a game with them right now where I have over 40 prestige between my sov, research, and all the quest prestige.

Food does not affect growth, but it limits the max population.

If you have two cities and 6 prestige they will grow with 3 population each. If one has hit maximum population then one city grows with 3 (still) and the other will grow nothing until you get more food.

Food sets the cap on population, growth determines how fast that population grows.

For instance, if you are at 100 pop and have 100 free food available with a Growth of 2, you will reach 200 pop in 50 turns. Once you reach there you will stop until you get more food.

The moral is that you need to research the "food-techs" on a regular basis to have your empire grow. Try to be proactive and research before it all stops :d

Can someone please explain how population growth works
End of quote

Before the buildings that gives a set bonus, the population growth works like.. as far as I know, like this:

You take your Prestige (located at the top of the map), and divide out on all your cities, (2 prestige out to 3 cities gives 0.66 population per turn in each city, 6 prestige on 3 cities gives 2 population per turn in each city). Prestige can be gained by techs, buildings and leveling your sovereign.

Food dictates your maximum amount of population in your city, say you build your first city on a 4 grain spot, the starting food per grain is 20, so you will have 4 times 20 as food, for 80 available maximum population, you can see the food available if you click on a city, and click on the details button bottom left.
Of course food changes when researching certrain civic techs, and building certain buildings.

PS. the Hierga-nom-nom doesn't work in my experience :P I would try other places for my information ^_^
