915 game balance

Wow. I liked 0.86. Played it alot. 0.90 introduced some bugs (like the outcome of a fight in the battle screen would show before the character swung the weapon).

In my opinion 915 is unplayable. The game balance, even on easy, was ridiculously unbalanced. Enemies routinely declare war on me - at one point I had the whole world against me, and then they send wave after wave of armies.

And, as someone said before, the wandering creatures seem to have supernatural line of sight and knowledge.

I know that this is a beta. But isn't a beta supposed to be steadily fixing bugs and refining gameplay? There have been huge UI and interface differences between 086 and 091. Some of the trading UI is better, but most "improvements" are just messy.

I would expect these huge shifts if the beta was around version 0.5, but come on!

ksarrow, I don't see how you can argue that the current beta is unplayble. People are winning, some are losing. There are lots of bugs still and tons of balance work needs to be done. However, it is very playable. WoM on release was largely unplayable. FE is already deeper and more playable than WoM ever was.

I think most of the changes during the beta have been positive. There are areas that I wouod like to see improved, but I think we have come a long way.

I don't see why every version has to be better than the last. The devs need freedom to make mistakes, to introduce bugs, to try things that are overpowered or underpowered. The beta isn't supposed to be fun, its supposed to allow them to get feedback and try things out. I realize it may be frustrating since the devs don't have enough time to acknowledge every issue, to make promises about what will be changed and when, but try to be more patient. You can always wait till the final version...

I found this last beta to actually make things much earier with regard to creatures and AI.  That's odd.

I have to agree Mhantra.  so far all the factions have been super nice to me.  They keep giving me good trades and wanting to be all nice; I guess it does help that my power level is a good bit above theirs.  I haven't had any problems with monster AI bee lining for my stuff either.  so far I have really enjoyed this release.  sure there are some balance things and bugs but for some reason I haven't had the same experience as ksarrow.

The AI is now taking prestige into relation (so that means they are less likely to war you if you have decent prestige), and the relation change is more gradual as well, giving you even more time to prepare. As a result, I haven't got dec once in both games (on hard) despite some rather crummy starts. It's definitely a lot easier.

The monsters in general also seems a lot tamer too. A lot of times you can just walk right next to monsters and you won't even be attacked unless they were already chasing you.

Thanks Kalin, this makes sense about the AI taking prestige into consideration.

By playing an aggressive diplomacy game I was able to do much better. Vigorous trade with those who like me and Offer Tribute to the one who hated me.

Also I was making a huge mistake - I wasn't upgrading my troops stationed in my cities. I didn't notice that menu option. When I upgraded their weapons and armor it made it alot better.
