Twas the night before Beta

an adaptation of the famous poem

Sorry this is a bit out of season, but I just couldn't help myself. Enjoy!

Twas the night before Beta, when all through Stardock
Not a creature was stirring, not even the Frog.
The web server was silent, well-maintained with care,
In hopes that Fallen Enchantress soon would be there.

The developers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Umberdroths danced in their heads.
And Skittles in her 'kerchief, and Zubaz in his cap,
Had just settled their brains for a long springtime's nap.

When out in the parking lot there arose such a clatter,
Derek Paxton sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window he flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of Frogboy's new car
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects afar.
When, what to Derek's wondering eyes should appear,
But a tiny pink pony and rabid fanboys oh dear!

With a little old rider, so lively and quick,
Derek knew in a moment it must be Lord Xia.
More rapid than eagles his companions they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

Now Heavenfall! Now seanw3! Now Das123 and Trojasmic!
On, DsRaider! On, Wintersong, on Kongdej and Tasunke!
To the top of the stairs! To the door by the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up through the parking lot the fanboys they flew,
With the tiny pink pony, and Lord Xia too.

And then, in a twinkling, Derek heard by the door
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As he drew in his head, and was turning around,
In through the door Lord Xia crashed with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with old pizza grease.
A bundle of DVDs he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

Hi eyes-how they twinkled! His dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

A gaming magazine he held tight in his hand,
And the fanboys encircled his august self like a band.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowl of silicone jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And Derek laughed when he saw him, in spite of himself!
A wink of Xia's eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave Derek to know he had plenty to dread.

Xia spoke not a word, but went straight to the server,
And copied all the files, then turned with a jerk.
And waving Derek back to his bed,
And giving a nod, out the door he fled!

He sprang to his pony, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But Derek heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Fallen Enchantress to all, and to all a good game!"

You know, I bet you could do a lot of creative work on drugs. Just look at Jackson Pollock. You'd have to be high to come up with that crazy stuff (of course, you'd also have to be high to want to buy it).

All the greatest artists were on some sort of narcotic. Who knows where you'll be in a few years time?

Thought I'd give this a bump in honor of the impending release of beta 4. I've cleared my weekend schedule so I'm ready for a serious bit of beta testing! Can't wait to get my hands on beta 4 and see what the city improvements are like. Also, I hope we get another huge change log to drool over. That'll tide me over until I get home from work. It's gonna be hard to sleep tonight, feels like Christmas Eve!

Oh drat. I've been waiting for beta 4 also, but I'm leaving on a trip starting tomorrow, and while I will have some internet access while I'm traveling, I doubt I'll be able to download the beta. Oh well, I guess I'll be able to join beta 4 in early September.

Glad you like it Kongdej. I spent a couple days writing it out and tweaking bits before I posted it. It was hard to get some of the sections to rhyme. Hopefully the devs will get a kick out of it too, something to give them a laugh after working so hard and putting in so many long hours on the beta.
