Question: Maps without mountains?

Is there a way to get a map that isn't covered with mountains?

I have tried temperate and swamp (the two map types that, based on their description, seem least likely to have mountains) and am still plagued with mountains everywhere.

This is especially annoying near your start location.

Too many times my start location is poor resource-wise, too close to AI players and cut off from the rest of the map by mountains.

At least there is the control-N key combo!

Yeah. The starting point thing is pretty infuriating. I even had a starting point that I didn't get to try to "Settle" until the second turn, and by then, I was too close to another capitol city to found my own city.

Yeah, The Ctrl+N thing is nice, but it begs the question, if you have to restart often enough to that you have to create a hotkey to do it, it means that you need a better starting point algorithm.

It's usually about 5-6 restarts before a map has A) anything that is at least 3 in both Grain and Materials, b) has any sort of resource within starting distance of that 3/3 or better spot, and C) allows you to expand to even a second city before the computer Factions get there and box you in.

Have you tried a Ravaged map? There will still be mountains, but those chasms should break 'em up a bit.

I've completely lost patience with the map generator.

Haven't tried that, but wouldn't that be the same situation, only the inverse?

I don't think that chasms extend for as far as mountain ranges.
