I was able to build it right after research "standing army"...at least that is when I first saw it in my training list.

I could build them right off the bat.  Love them, too, actually makes quite a different army than all humans.  My first game, I created a spider before anyhting else upon startup of the game.  That one spider became pretty powerful, and landing that web is fantastic strategy early on, used to break up groups of melee units or an archer from retreating back every turn.  I am a fan of Resoln being built around various spider units if that is the plan.

Yeah, the first spider you can build right from the start. It makes early defense pretty easy... since they don't cost any maint as far as I can tell.

Good point.  Not sure how OP it is, or if it is more of a feature of the race (easier early defense), kind of how Magnar has his slaves and Procipinee has her magic based outposts.  So perhaps it is a good thing that Resoln has it, especially since they are almost always last place in my matches lol.

Yeah, its intended, but its balanced by a change that hasn't been introduced yet (Resoln will be losing armor).  Making those spiders to hold down enemies all the more important.

Is that complete loss of armor?  Now that would be a unique race lol.  My interest is piqueued.  Cool to know, thanks for sharing that.

Dear lord, no armor? I sure hope there's more to that change to counter balance it than just those spiders. While the first one has some small use, the others are no where near up to par (the 2nd fails horribly compared to a group of spearmens and the last you'll never get due to its location on the tech tree). Not to mention, the mana cost, there's just no way you can field an army of those things.
