[.913]Counter Attack and Spell Casting

Question for the masses.

Do you think casters in the midst of casting a spell (those with cast times: fireball, storm, etc) should lose their ability to counter attack if they are holding a bladed weapon?

I'd like that.

Maybe even ad a chance to interrupt the spell by attacking the casting unit, if that's not allready possible.

Dont think so. Could be an interesting weapon ability. Spellbreaker weapons that deal 200% dmg to units casting spells? they would have to do something else as well.

Yeah!

Or a fast magic slingshot that dosn't do much damage, but when you hit a wizard while casting, it stops the spell, gives him a lost-eye-trait and a berserk-buff... And we shall name it "The Annoyer"!

I think its fine like that, but maybe they should add special staves/wands/orbs that give effects like "+5 defense while casting a spell"

Also, weapons vs spellcasters could be nice, but unless it effects certain monsters as well I feel like it would be a waste of resources.

What kind of resources? "The Annoyer" could only be acquired by carving him out of the bones of a depressed kobold. Those aren't of much use for anything else anyway.

I think UmbralAngel meant a waste of the "developers" resources, not in-game resources. =)

I meant actually adding stuff to the warfare or magic tech tree that you could equip to units. These would probably cost crystal. Maybe it could be a faction specific item?

Well, mine was merely another one of my jokes, that, as so often, only myself actually found funny.

But anyway,  background is, such specialist equipment would probably be best fit as single artifatcs, that may be found in the depths of this forsaken world. (As long as they don't completely throw the coremechanics out of balance...) The more different inventive ways their are to make use of the allready existent mechanics, the better, may they be always deemed usefull by everybody or not.

Also... What do you guys think about Kantok's suggestion? Good one, isn't it? ;)

I have to ask, do you guys actually counter spells? Right now, I just stab the caster and he dies... o0

Yep, I had army of archer to kill him on spot, so he can't do any cast magic.

I've done it a couple of times with "counterspell", usually on enemy hero army recruits that I kill for XP and the possibility of a nice item reward. Also to deny them to the evil kingdom factions! :P

I haven't tried the "feedback" counterspell yet however. That one supposedly damages enemy spell casters if the spell casting disruption is successful. I do not get to use it often since most spell casters don't cast multi-turn spells. Most common one seems to be the Air Elemental's Titan's Breath. If I can reach the enemy in a single turn (ie. my sovereign has impulsive + charge + longstrider boots + riding a warg) I don't need to worry about counterspelling. B)
