[.981] Faction Colors

As of now there are eight factions plus wildlands which can be represented on the map.  Several colors are too close to distinguish territorial boundaries easily.  I suggest changing a few colors around as follows:

Ythiril - White

Gilden - Yellow

Kraxis - Similar Yellow => silver

Tarth - Green

Wildlands - Similar Green => black

Pariden - Light Blue

Resoln - Similar Blue => purple

Altar - Red

Magnar - Similar Red => fiery orange

Good idea to change the colors a little bit... I like the new fluorescence on the borders by the way...

+ How about leaving Kraxis yellow and make Gilden brown instead

+ Wildlands should be multi-colored like the city states in Civ 5.

Love this idea

Seconded or Thirded.  Let's get this done!   ^_^

I think silver would be confused with white... how about pink?  :karma:

Also, I think brown would be a good replacement for another color... maybe orange -> brown

Brown for Gilden would fit fine so Kraxis can go yellow then

White yes can be easily mistaken for silver so yeah give pinki :pig:

Would it be too much to ask for, for a setting so the game ignores the player chosen border colors and gives them to something you set during game setup, since there isn't a lot of colors left for custom factions :S, I usually end up with a couple of factions with the same colors after I made 3-4 custom factions.
This is starting to make the random faction thingie quite annoying, cause in some games I will end up with all the neighboring factions all having a yellow borderline, or something like that.

Now I am thinking of it, meaby a second color or symbol, or a second feature Implemented in borders and faction colors to help distinguish between similarly colored factions could be nice...

+1 about the faction colors, couldn't tell the 2 yellowish colors apart very well.

Yeah please let us choose colors for each faction while starting a new game. This is a staple feature for strategy games... and its pretty darn simple to impliment for the devs.

Colors need to be unique and distinguishable.

Or at least a Line color and a radiance color, since the new ZoC looks all sexified that way.

Ever try to play the game from a colorblind perspective? :p

To be more constructive, to help in my scenario is to offer more than just color. Border with the faction name or when you zoom out, a solid color of what borders you currently see as well as who owns them.

Would a colorblind mode help? some games have this? Just a personal interest in how colorblind see the world :p

Bumping this cuz I haven't seen/heard plans to address and it still bugs me.

Yeah in a recent game of mine both Krax and Gilden were present and they shared a common border.  My eyeballs exploded. o_O

Thanks for the bump!

I would avoid the black. I can see them being confusing with the black grid lines. I don't mind the Forest Green. If anything, make Tarth into a lighter green to further distinguish the two.

I am hesistant of the silver. It's too close to white and could conflict Ythiril. However, I solidly agree that Kraxis and Gilden are too close in color. perhaps consider a Brown for kraxis?

Definately agree Resolin should be purple.

Definatley agree Magnar could be a Burnt Orange.

I won't be the one to go out and say Pink should be in there somewhere. O:) Cause the runner up would probably be Tarth...

In addition, it would be nice if the border colors were a little more pronounced while in the cloth map view. There a bit hard to distinguish against the tan colored background.

This is interesting. It's one of those things I don't even notice from playing for so long with the same colors. I only look at flags, not color, because you can't tell anything by color.

I like this.

we are looking into this, those who have been around a while will remember that purple and orange were once the colors of Capitar and Umber, who no longer have pre-made Sovereigns... Thus we (kind of?) have more options for the time being, it just had never been re-investigated

I feel strangely and shamefully strongly about this for reasons I can't quite understand.   Kraxis has to be gold and black.  Capitar has to be purple.  Tarth should be green.  But the others can change I guess...

Well, I still play with Umber and Capitar, all it takes is making them a Sov and the nations are already made.

Would be nice to have some suggested colours too for new custom factions, if you find some spare colours, also finding a colour palette with easily distinguishable colours would be nice, atleast some games run up to 12 colours somewhat differentiated.
