Top 5 Star Trek TNG episodes

Top 5 Star Trek TNG episodes

We just finished a Star Trek TNG marathon.  Let me first say that a lot of TNG episodes don’t hold up well. Burrrr. Some of them are really bad.

But in general, TNG still delivers and there are some truly amazing episodes in there.  Below are my top 5. Please comment below what your favorite ones are.

  1. Inner Light
  2. Yesterday’s Enterprise
  3. The Best of Both Worlds (I and II)
  4. Darmok
  5. Chain of Command

Ironically, had I put this together back in say 2000, when the show was still somewhat “Fresh” I would have rated episodes like Parallels and Tapestry and All Good things way up there.  But this is what I mean by episodes not holding up when looking back on them (imo of course).

Wow. Putting this list together was difficult. For me, it was:

Top Three:
1) The Inner Light
2) Yesterday's Enterprise
3) Skin of Evil

The Others in No particular Order:
4) The Nth Degree
5) Future Imperfect
6) Time's Arrow
7) Power Play
8) Cause and Effect
9) The Chase
10) Second Chances

The problems they had with poor character constructs seemed to prevent the show from reaching the myriad of possibilities on such a voyage. There are so many aspects of the prime directive that could have clashed with their need for survival.
End of seanw3's quote
I think the problem is that they got teleported in Borgland, and shouldn't have survived more than a dozen miles there.

Only one thing could ever kill the Borg: the writers for Voyager.

Comparing epeens via the size of your disc (collections) ? hehe. Parallels, Second Chance, Future imperfect, the Chase, cause and effect..you guys got them all..I like Time Arrow too..one fo the better Data episodes..(Redemption was another one) and when I envision Mark Twain that actor is now who I think of heh. Wish we could have seen more of him.

Something tells me we like stories with time travel/alternate dimensions ect..no wonder Quantum leap was so popular..

A lot of the good ones have been listed, I just have to add "Deja Q" in there. Q discovering what it means to be human was great fun.

Q: "What must I prove for you to believe that I am mortal??"

Warf: "Die"

LOLZ!!

Do Jandrew's Edits count?  I like the one about Data's special project.

it's a a double-double at the end.

I kid, but these videos are actually why I started re-watching TNG and the others, although I loved them when they first aired too.

Inner Light and Darmok are absolutely outstanding.

For sentimental reasons I also loved, The Perfect Mate...even with the stupid Ferengi in it.

Wow. Many are tossing Darmok on their lists. My list is above, but I sure never considered Darmok to be anywhere near the top...

personal preferances I guess...

Inner Light
Pen Pals
Peak Performance
The survivors
The wounded

I do not like Darmok...

Another episode I have to throw out there that I haven't seen mentioned yet is "The Next Phase" where Geordi and Ensign Ro are believed to have died in a transporter accident but are really just phased and trying to figure a way to get the attention of the crew before they perish in that bariyon (or something) sweep. Data gets to plan the funeral and does a bang-up job. It probably wouldn't be in my top 5, but in my top 10, sure.

"But my uniform... my visor... are you saying I'm some sort of blind ghost with clothes?"

Not really a big Trekkie but I liked The Drumhead for it's acting (Jean Simmons is great) and the questions it posed. That and I like courtroom dramas.

I started watching TNG again because of this topic, and I completely agree with your statement here. 'Encounter at Farpoint' had so many cringe moments I almost gave up. But after watching a few more it gets better I think.

I do have a new goal should the situation ever arise that I get my hands on a working time-machine; Kill Wesley Crusher, or at least whoever came up with him. Having a kid grow up among the crew could have been done well, unfortunately they went with extremely obnoxious. I don't remember hating him this much from the first time I watched the series...

Most of the first season is pretty cringe worthy... eek. Also, the whole Wesley Crusher thing reminded me of Boxey from the original Battlestar Galactica. Was it's purpose just to keep the kids entertained while the adults were watching? At least Wil Wheaton got to kiss Ashley Judd in that one episode of mind-controlling holo-game glasses.

I'm a real fan of Star -trek. been watching it since I was 3 and I am 38 now.

Please somebody tell me why Mr Crusher was such a pain. He was not my favorite character but I don't understand why everybody seems to think he was that bad...

TNG is my favorite series. Followed by DS9 and yes believe it or not Enterprise is my solid third. I loved enterprise. especially when they go into the repair station. Humans... we go there and we destroy the place. Typical :-)

Archer is what I think a good captain without a rule book looks like.

The best overall captain is Picard by a long shot. However I would not want to face Sisko in battle that guy is crazy!

TNG favorite episodes

Inner light for sure. Made me cry

Yesterday Enterprise "And we must succeed, for history never forgets the name... Enterprise!" Picards face there was way cool!

The Pegasus. Just wish the ending had more punch. It was nice seeing the Enterprise D cloaking.

Booby Trap. They certainly did not have to destroy the ship but still it was fun

The defector, Tomolock... Love that guy... Especially his face when three Klingon war birds DE-cloack

I don't need to mention Q and the Borg they are all a must see. But those are the ones I love watching again and again.

I just started re watching TNG this month. Man, the first 2 seasons seem dated to my eyes!

Favorite eps from seasons 1 and 2:

Where no one has gone before

The measure of a man

Peak Performance

Q Who?

You'll notice that I have omitted Encounter at Farpoint. I really don't think it was that great....maybe I've just seen it too many times....

Forgot Datalore.........just for giving Brent the opportunity to play evil }:)

For me the first season was the pits. IMO I thought Wesley Crusher was a mistake. The episodes without him and the 'coming of age' for Data slowly improved the series but it wasn't until after Worf took over as security boss that it really got off the ground.
End of Uvah's quote

I totally agree.

Any episode with the Borg in it was great. :borg:
