Outposts

Given the number of resources on the map, I think that we have to build too many outposts. I suggest increasing the outpost's ZOC radius by 2, to a total of 4 squares.

Also given how fragile outposts are and how easy it is to pillage the resources they supposedly protect, I think changes are in order. First, outposts should be granted free militia units like cities. The number of militia units can be a function of the number of turns the outpost was up, or some other factor. Second, all resources within the outpost's ZOC should be protected by the outpost, meaning that if an army onto a resource to pillage it, it automatically fights the outpost's garrison.

I second the sentiment of this.  Outposts currently are pretty much the equivalent of placing a flag in the ground and saying, "This area is now mine."  While this is a good start, I want to be able to do more with outposts.  I want options to upgrade them to watchtowers, forts, castles and/or the like so I can do interesting things with them.

Well, how about you train troops to stand on your outpost? If the outposts and their resources are under threat, this would be a good idea... Hopefully they will be under threat and here will be another use/necessity for training troops. I don't know if I like auto-defense outposts, but other bonuses would be cool... like upgrading them for ZOC or sight range or +Gildar, etc.

I think upgrading outpost is a great idea. Another option would limiting the outpost to 1 upgrade as the connect city levels up: a choice between a defensive upgrade or one that improves the output of the local resource
