Gated wildlands - how do I enter?

I've encountered a wildland area that is sealed within a mountain range. There are gargoyle statues around it (or maybe other monster), and there is an opening with a gate.

However, the gate is closed and the tile just before the gate is unclickable. Is it a bug? Or does entering the place have some special requirement? (playing v0.9)

You don't. That is the Pit of Lost Voices and had not been finished yet. It will probably be part of the end game quest.
