Sorcery

I'm a fairly latecomer to the beta, so my vagueness about Sorcery really isn't because senescent.  That's just the way I normally act. ;)

Yes, I know it's a Magic technology.  I know it gives you elemental books you can (without another tech) sell to other leaders.

But why does research suddenly give you a bunch of a magical books at one time?

If I didn't research the books or buy them from anyone else, would any of my magically inclined champions be able to cast in the spells in them upon reaching the right magical level (ie, apprentice, adept, etc) that seems to auto-pop spell availability?

Where are the contents of the books listed?  They aren't in the help system.  It looks like a placeholder sentence.

Books?

Are you talking about Principee's special ability to craft magical books of power to sell to her champions, after a certain tech has been gained?.

If not, I am confused. So please take a moment to clarify :D

Certainly.  I'm referring to the Sorcery tech that opens access to a series of tomes.  My apologies if I wasn't clear about this.  Where I wrote "books," above, read "tomes."

Sorry if I was snappy, tried to make as nice a note as possible, took some time to look:

I think you unlocked them through playing the proper faction with the appropriate ability, and that would explain them being "slightly out of place" since that is an entirely new section of the game.
That might be why it feels a bit odd, there have been no time to polish it.

The contents of the books are the same as if you yourself would pick "Apprentice Fire Magic"  and same for the other elements in which the books unlock. (Earth, Water, Air).

They give the apprentice versions of these as if trained and picked by level up.

No, you weren't snappy.  I wasn't clear. :) As for the picture, it's not reflecting what I see.  Presumably because I'm playing Pariden, so I show all you do, plus four elemental elemental tomes--which give apprentice ability. But as my sovereign is also being offered apprenticeship in those elements as level ups, it seems like a raw deal for Pariden, since their leader, Procipinee, starts with all four elements at apprentice.  In other words, one of the benefits of Pariden, those four tomes under Sorcery, isn't a benefit to their leader, since she already has it.  All you can do is trade them, which means they're usefulness lies not in their magical selves, but in what they can bring in gold.  Not exactly...exciting.  Also a tradeoff.  Nor seemingly worth much as a racial benefit.

I think I'm beginning to realize that the issue I have with Sorcery is an issue with how it's implemented for Pariden.

I think it makes sense the way it is. The advantage of pariden is they can make all their heroes more magical with the books. It's not about teaching their sovereign something she doesn't already know.

I think Pariden is the only one that gets those books. The benefit is that every hero you hire will have all the elements. That is a huge power. You should try getting all the hero techs right away and doing quests to get lots of gildar. You can buy a level 5 hero and make him a right nasty mage. Having every element means you have access to many more spells than other factions. But it does seem like a good idea to make a custom Sov and just use the books on her, instead of wasting points.

I'll have to check, but I would have sworn my heroes didn't get the elemental apprenticeships automatically after researching Sorcery.  You're right about customizing a leader, though.  Shame to waste the advantages on someone who has already them.

Personal, I would like a life bood add and more rank of book than one level, since there is no way start damage spell till fire 2 level and some spell like air 3 level to start out battle.
