Answered: Win 8 currently not supported

I've downloaded and installed FE, but when I try to launch it allows me to enter my email, password and serial number but it just "spins".

I downloaded Elemental WoM and it does the same thing?

I'm running Win 8.

I've tried the Create Stardock account option, but the Create button appears to have no effect.  It does recognize if a box is empty though.

If I fill out the correct information with my Serial number or if I use nonsense for my email and password, it doesn't seem to matter.  It doesn't seem to be contacting Stardock at all, just "greying out" and spinning.

I have to believe I'm doing something pretty stupid, since I can't find one other person with this problem.

Thanks for any suggestions..

Edit 1:  I downloaded the gamespot/impulse system, and redownloaded Elemental WoM and it works fine with that.  It just appears the registration application/launcher doesn't work for me.  Since I don't believe I can find the FE Beta on Impulse, I still need some help

Edit 2:  I downloaded Stardock Central.  It shows FE with a green click to launch button, but nothing happens after I push it.

Edit 3.  Stardock Cental will "launch" the registration screen now for FE.  It still hangs there, but I'm able to launch Elemental WOM with Stardock Central.  I had to go into Task manager and close down an instance of the activator.  So if I need to create a special FE account, then that might be the step I'm stuck on?  Off to email like suggested (and told to in sticky).

Edit 4:  Answered.  Win 8 not currently supported.  Thanks for help

You got your serial for FE from the stardock download page (or via the new Stardock Central) right? What I mean is, you are not trying to plug in your old Elemental:WoM serial info?

For the record, the beta has nothing to do with Gamestop/Impulse.

Yes.. I'm using the correct serial for FE from My Account Page on Stardock.  Although it doesn't appear to be using it at all.

I tried both games with the correct serials with the registration launcher program and neither responding beyond just spinning.

I only downloaded the old Impulse app, just in case the FE Beta was somehow in there.  Of course, as you said it is not, but it did allow me to play the original Elemental.

Not only does it not allow me to launch the game, it doesn't allow me "create" an account.  I turned off my Antivirus and windows firewalls, just in case they were somehow in the way, but that didn't change anything.  I tried running as an admin, and compat modes..  nothing there.

I'm assuming I doing something very stupid, since I can't find anyone else with this issue.  I started trying last night, and noticed that Stardock was messing with some servers, I was hoping it was related to that.

Thanks for the response...   and sorry for not using the correct form.

Have you tried emailing [email protected]?  Some other people who have posted here with install problems have gotten help that way.

I believe I have located the cause of your issue, sir.   O:)

Yea... you are correct.  Win 8 is not currently supported.

I did search, but obviously I'm the only one that didn't know this, since no other hits came up on my "Win 8 Fallen Enchantress" search.

Thanks for the help here, and the very quick response to my email from support.

I wonder when Win 8 will be supported? If FE is released in the Fall, when Win 8 is targeted to come out, SD will need to work on making it compatible. Thankfully that's still 6+ months away.

I have the same problem! Is there some workaround like editing the registry and will this be corrected in the next patch?

Windows 8 is not release and probably won't be for some time.  Unless it's specifically stated the beta won't be supporting a Windows 8 at this time.

So, where should I go for a refund, then?

The store clearly states that newer OS than Win7 are supported:

You are a bit quick here. The system requirements will be for the released game. If Win8 is out by then and FE cannot be played on Win8, then you should consider a refund request. Patience young strategy gamer.

Windows 8 is not released.  It's a consumer preview (very beta) at the moment.

Ibid in regards to Fallen Enchantress.

It is not released. It's a consumer preview (very beta) at the moment.

Sorry it's not supported, man. But Stardock is doing the damnest to make up for WoM, and I don't think making the beta playable on 8 is high on their list.

You should have waited a few years for the kinks to be worked out before getting Win 8. Personally I don't plan on getting Win8 for at least 3 years maybe longer

What kinks? It's already much better than win7, FE is the first software that is not working and it's not even the game that is not working only the damn DRM activator.

It might work, but that does not mean they support it. At least, not until they explicitly say so.

They have now removed "or later" in the system requirements. :)
