[0.86][Feedback] Who gave my militia lightning hammers?

So, apparently, the militia design is set for auto-upgrading one-handed blunt weapons. This means that if you get lightning hammers in the early/mid game (which is completely feasible), your city guards will really do some damage-- given that the crystal for lightning hammers may be rare, they may be some of the best-equipped units on the battlefield during an attack on a city. It may be far easier for a player to equip *all* of his militia with lightning hammers than to actually equip roaming units with them.

I hate to use the word "unrealistic" as a critique of something in a fantasy strategy game, but this does give me pause, and threatens suspension of disbelief.

Right, I agree, they shouldn't get champion gear and magic weapons, but maces and chainmail for a level 5 city with armorer, barracks, command post, weaponsmith and blacksmith seems fine to me.

City Defenders are a trained garrison. Barracks, Fort, Castle, City Level, Guardian Statue, and such represent an effort to have a professional defensive force. I would like additional options from and Armory to upgrade those units with metal for a one time cost of say 50 Metal. There is so much potential with city defense that is yet unrealized. Did you know you could make a Spell Tower that casts a spell at the beginning of each battle? That is the sort of defensive variety we need. Ivory Towers Mod will make city defense the most fun thing in the game. Hope some of that leaks into the core game.  :beer:

I put all effort into city defenders for my one large city, rarely have an army leave tha city at all during the first half of the game.  I would certainly like to have bonuses that reflect that.  Maybe even have a way to have nearby neutrals that you've 'befriended' join in protecting your city?

Having a Lair built into a city should add a few of those units to the defensive battles. So if you build a town next to a Storm Dragon Lair and you can cap it, you now get a Storm Dragon for defense. It would make Serpent's Pact so much more useful.

Rich and compelling. Would REALLY make those mercenary spots a more attractive place to build.

@seanw3 - A very good idea!!

I would also give a +1 to the option of upgrading the city defenders for a cost
