There won't be a beta update this week

Big things are afoot

Just wanted to let you know that there won't be a new beta this week.  We're in progress with quite a few additions that won't be baked in in time for the beta.

Some of this involves the diplomacy area to support new types of treaties as well as some coding to make it easier for us to do faction differentiation (for instance, we can't easily make a tech that is only available for Tarth and we can't exclude a particular race from using a particular weapon easily).

Plus, there's all the generous bug reports we've been getting in from the beta group that just take time to work through and address.

We'll be keeping you up to date with what we're working on.

Bummer

But thanks a bunch for the update. I love knowing what you guys are doing.

I've played a bit more this week-end and I finally listen to the game music for the first time WOW it was really good.

Keep up the good work.

All Hail the :frogboy:

Will the new version have MAP TRADING enabled? :)

(preferably at a tier 2 or tier 3 tech)

I'm in favor of "negative prereqs". I know that we work on XML but I do miss the equivalents of "If"/"If-Else If"/"If (!condition)".

Thanks for the update, Brad. Most appreciated, even if it's more waiting. Rather you guys work through adding in what needs to happen than push it out with instability/bugs.

Good to know the faction differentiation needs to be built into the product. It explains why the factions have been so bland. Sounds like we may get some diplomacy enhancements in the next beta after all...

I think I speak for everyone when I say "Code. Code like the wind!"

Any chance existing buildings are getting some changes? I have been testing some pretty great changes to citylevelup bonuses and high labor costs. I am happy that you guys removed all that nasty gildar maintenance in the early game. Thanks for listening and keep up the great work.

A mini patch fixing flame and ice staff units from automaticly leaving a city that is attacked and banning all other factions from using drake lairs would be great :)

You can actually still build on the Drake Lairs even though it says you can't. But the Drake is immensely overpowered I think.

Any chance we can also have mutually exclusive buildings (non level-up related) /building trees?

With regards to dilpomacy; I assume from having used the system that it is mainly based around the strength value granted to your faction. But that often doesnt represent the reality. I.e. my lousy 93 strength versus 550+ strenght of an aggressive faction results in them asking me for tributes of around 5000+ gildar, when I dont pay they deck me. I then whoop all their armies and champions with no or nearly no losses. I then fully expect to be able to reverse the drama and demand 5000+ gildar from them in return for peace but nooooooo they still want tons of gildar or dipcap and start throwing crap at me having lost all their experienced armies.

For once I say no problem!

1) Have to finish my game on the current 0.86 build and enjoying it a lot.

2) Must play Mass Effect 3!

Agreed, I appreciate the update, even if it's just "not yet."

Yes, I would love it if mutual exclusivity was in.  Also, the ability to have multiple prerequisites and require ALL of them to be satisfied to get the tech, trait, quest whatever would be great too! (Currently only one prerequisite is required.)

The city problem is because for some reason they hardcoded 18 units as the max for battles. This will take a major change to fix.

If by "city problem" you mean the magic staff running away problem, I've seen it happen when there were nowhere close to 18 units in a game.  I've also worked around it by loading a save from just before the battle, selling my champ's magic staff and using the money to buy sword, shield & armor for him, with no other changes.

Yes, you really  CAN  actually build on the Drake Lairs, even though the dialogue in the .85 Beta says that you can't !  Yea !!

Thanks White Elk, for pointing this out.  Earlier today I went back to the .85 version that I was playing, and took advantage of this fact.  The game, which was not going all that well (seemed like a long-running kind of tie), was finally tilted into my favor.  Thereafter, I played for several hours, defeated Umbar and Resoln, and won a modest Diplomatic Victory.  I really wanted to get to the end-game, to get an overall view of the full game, so I was really happy to be able to do this.

That, in turn, (finishing the game) has permitted me to get on with the business of down-loading the .86 patch, which went very smoothly.  I am thus looking forward to starting my next round of Beta-testing (otherwise known as game-playing  :D in my simplified world) .  So, thanks for the Tip!  This is the kind of useful info that I love discovering on these pages.  (Oh, and one karma point for you, BTW.)

I also want to re-state my overall impression of Elemental: Fallen Enchantress, which I had previously posted elsewhere.  I make this observation as a 20 year veteran of 4x games;  BUT  as a relative Newbie to the Elemental Universe (for what that's worth).

Fallen Enchantress is genuinely good; it is getting better; and I am confident it will evetually be a Great game!

I'd love to see the 18 unit limit thing removed.

Why was it hardcoded in the first place?

Apparently it is a bug, has been reported and will be fixed sometime soon. Soon we will be able to up the unit limit to 50vs50!

Take your time I've got AOW:SM and SWTOR to keep me occupied until the new patch.
