Well, fixed a few problems over the last beta...still plays basically identical though. Played a few more times, but just getting a general meh feeling. By limiting accessories champions can wear you've certainly cut down on their utility...almost to the point of useless to have them in battle when trained units are so much more efficient by comparison. Magic is tragically weak to really be a tide turner. Only spell I ever bother to use is Haste.

And as was already expected, game still crashes from time to time.

Probably won't bother playing anymore until next beta is released, and by then I'll be playing Mass Effect 3...so if I do write any more regarding beta, it most likely won't be for a while yet.

Can't say I honestly have a pat on the back for you so far. Though my expectations have went down, rather then up.

You're using magic poorly if you don't find it useful. Spells like obscuring fog and guradian ward kick butt in archery battles. Focus + flame dart can help give your archers a leg up or cut through heavily armored troops. Flame pillar (strategic) can cripple or wipe out whole armies. Cloud walk gives you instant defense anywhere. Tremor can be used to stop raiding armies. Slow is great for taking out frighteningly powerful monsters. There's more.

They don't do much if ya don't have the elemental shards that power them, and ya don't get many of those if you're not crazy expansionistic. I'm a more defensive player, and build outward slowly, so by the time magic has any real effect, the game is practically over. Even if ya have a sov as path of the mage and collect the traits that make your magic more powerful, without shards...they're still not that great.

With the way they set it up since the last release, you pretty much can't play defensively unless you get a nice starting position. Even then it penalizes you for not rushing to take over stuff. Well, unfortunate part is trying to rapidly expand, you end up with towns with maybe 1 building cause all you're doing is making pioneers, and the more I rush, the sooner the game crashes. So that makes all that a moot point as well. I find it vastly difficult to play the game and enjoy it if I have to use tactics I'm not favored of using. Which they have oh-so-kindly made it damn near impossible to do. In WoM you could win with only a few cities, that doesn't work in FE, and it's a big thumbs down.

I am quite defensive too, and there are many things in FE that helps me there. You can cast freeze on incoming armies, you get bonuses in your own territory, you can build buildings that add defense too. It is in the nature of 4x games that you need to expand. I think this game is great in the fact that you only need a few armies even late game (medium map). For me it does not turn into micromanagement hell.

I am playing a game now that has lasted for hours and hours, and I am finally getting the upper hand after winning a prolonged war. I am having a GREAT time. Even late game new stuff is interesting (I just recruited three Ogres)

When I get around to having 5 or so cities, the game crashes every few turns after I start up again. And I'm positive it's not my system, but something wrong with this 'threading' technology they're talking about in the dev journals. Either way, it makes it really annoying having to restart, get maybe a good 150 turns in then back to crash fest again.

I win games on hard building normally just a one city. It is true that you have to go to war early, but instead of building lots of pioneers, i just conquer closest neighbour with their cities. Then you have space and you have shards to defend/build as much as you want.

I don't understand your complaint really... Make a game that my strategy, which i like, works all the time ... Let's presume that i have strategy that i do not like use my sov, i do not like to build any troops i just like to build buildings and game has to adapt to me ...

There are many strategies, and I used various to win: magic based, troops based etc. Quick expansions, through war, through exploration and requiring lots of champs and doing quest - you have quite a choice right now.

I total I've completed about 11 plays...where the game didn't crash fest, but that was before current patch. 2 were conquest, the others were all basically spell of making cause I can't find the dungeons that do the master quest X.x. Course, I dunno if master quest was working before last patch either so that might've been part of the problem.
