Keyboard serious bug .. reaaaaly need to fix :)

Keys dont' map to directions right :)

I encountered this early on, seemed weird, but thought maybe map rotation was to blame; I just discovered the menu option to disable snap-back, so I could rotate so the grid is nice and horizontal/vertical .. no angles.

Press say '9' to go north-east, works; then press '1' say to go south-east. Try the various reversals.. they don't work consistently.

ie: I just did '7' to go northwest, and then '3'... goes south; not south-east, like it should.

So numpad movement doesn't work (a la Civilization and most games of this sort) at all. Easy to fix bug I'm sure.. surprised this one slipped by :) It would seem everyone is playing with Mouse only?

Likewise.. arrow keys move the unit, but coudl be nice to have option so arrow keys can move the map viewport instead; ie: for windowed mode where you can't use edges to glide around, use cursor keys instead? (again, like Civ.)

Please fix the numpad movement.. I reach for keyboard instinctively, keeps screwing myself :)

Greetings!

I'm not sure if this will help you, but I've noticed that when I use the numpad keys to move (on the world map), the 'orientation' of the world is the most limiting factor in what direction the keys will send my units.

What I mean is, if I have rotated the map, then the numpad keys always reorient themselves to whichever way I've turned it.  For example, if I've rotated 45 degrees clockwise, then the '8' key will move my units 'northwest' instead of 'north.  The '8' key still moves them 'up', towards the top of the screen, but on the world map, that direction would be northwest.  Likewise the '7' and '9' keys move my units up-left and up-right respectively (or west and north, respectively).

The problem is, that if the screen isn't rotated close to a 45 degree increment, the keys may not work at all.  I think maybe this is what's happening to you.

My feeling is that I like this system, because I enjoy being able to freely rotate the map at will.  But I might also suggest to the devs that they install some sort of 'snap' function in the options or a hotkey that 'snaps' the screen so that the map can be locked into positions that guarantee full use of the numpad keys for movement while still preserving the free rotate ability.

I had it rotated so it was perfectly horizontal/vertical, to try and minimize the chance for error. Eithe way, it makes no sense that 9 would go northeast, and 1 would go south instead of southwest; regardless of how mis-angled they are, they have to be ordinal .. opposite key is opposite direction :)

And this is a quite easy thing to code, relative to other things like AI etc; so presumably the boys are working on the hard real game impacting stuff first,. but hopefully thesde 'little' things are not forgottne; to me, the game is entirely broken by some of these UI things, sincve in 5 minutes I stumble across a dozen little nits. But they are all relatively easy things to fix.

ie: the event queues.. so a dialog might come up later, and 10 times in a row .. pretty easy to have the queue-add function check if its already enqueued, etc.

Just hopefully they've got the big to-do list and this is on it :)

(And if Frogboy et al are reading this.. then guys, you're definately on the button here. FE is already clearly in the right direction, moreso than WOM was. As an old MOM player, I'm feeling the groove here.)
