[.86] Suggestion - Recruited champions level and traits

As mentioned in the thread about champions with high level equipments, I strongly agree that when you recruit a level 5,7,9, or whatever level champion he should at least have enough traits to equal his level. Unique traits to that hero would be idieal but even from the common pool of traits is better than it currently is.

As it stands it's best to recruit a level one champion as you can pick his traits as he levels up. It's pointless to research all the techs to recruit a level 9 champion when trait wise he is weaker than the champion you picked on on turn 2 of the game. That level 9 champion is missing out on at least 5 levels of traits in effect gimping him. Combined with the fact it takes longer to level them they have very little room for growth. Sure he starts with better equipment but by that time my other champions have better equipment anyways.

This actually isn't true. The champion may be missing traits but they tend to have higher stats. Given that the majority of traits raise stats I don't really see an issue with tihs. Also it can be difficult to level multiple champions to higher levels, making picking up an already leveled champion an ideal way to maximize your army.

True for warriors maybe, but mage characters are all about the traits. Whats a mage without evoker or spells? Your pretty much never going to get enough levels on a high lv champion to get them even lv4 in a spell trait and the low level ones mostly only have a single spell trait. Some rare lv3/5 champions do have 2/3 spell traits but they shouldn't be the only champions with a chance to be powerful casters.

@Stupidity Maybe someone at stardock will take the hint and make intelligence affect spell damage :)

I agree this is a problem now, where there are really only two really valuable champion types...an optimized mage, and a path of the warrior, both with logical traits.  I dont find mid-late game champions nearly as valuable as the early game champions I control the level bonus selection of, and rarely buy them except for kicks.  Their superior equipment is nice, but nothing compared to having the right traits.

It's the dev's stated intention to change this though, and make the other paths distinctive and valuable. Of course, Champions will have to be created along more deliberate lines, and not completely random, otherwise you'd still get a lot of pointless champions.

Although a lot of times the stats aren't that much higher. I would much rather have the five extra traits than the 4 extra strength and 2 extra dexterity.

And yes espicially mage champions get gimped as they need the talents to cast higher levels of spells. I haven't seen a champion yet starting with more than level 2 in any one element.
