[.86 Suggestion] Limit the number of distinct armies per tile to one.

Just like it says on the tin. I'm in the middle of a game where Tarth is sending 2-3 armies at me every few turns, and they are almost always stacked on the same tile. The impact here is that you can't see (easily, if at all) everything that you are dealing with. Neither can you choose which army in the stack to attack. I've spent several turns working through these army stacks every time they happen, and if the AI were better at realizing the advantage, would make it WAY harder to protect my cities.

Ultimately, although its a bit of a crapshoot, this means that you could stack an army of 6 tiny militia units with a giant army of death, and you have an (apparent) 50% chance for anything that attacks your stack to blow up your decoy army and let your giant pile of military death coast on through to their destination (or at least have a better shot at it).

My preference here would be for one and only one army to be able to occupy a square at a given time. Alternately, we need a means of selecting which force we engage.

As an aside, I think this same "feature" has also created situations in which champions who were killed in battle for a city respawn as an army over the city tiles, and appeared unable to move.

This is a bug not a feature. Player armies are limited to one per tile. It is monster and AI armies that do not possess this limitation. Given that that the AI is incompetant and monsters rarely attack it's not a really pressing issue, but it should/will be addressed at some point in the game's development.

Probably there is code of the nature of: if player_unit +current_ tile_unit_count > max_army_size then move_function = 0. Likely this check occurs on the human side only and isn't run as a check for other factions. Not to mention monsters may or may not even have a faction to be considered 'players' to have this check run at all.

I agree that it is annoying... especially if you kill one army and the second is sort of there invisibly lurking until the graphics refresh next turn AFTER your army is several tiles away dealing with another threat.

Would it be hard for them to have all of the adjacent tile armies get sent to the tactical map ala AOW:SM? That would really be fun and eliminate this stacked army nonsense.

I think it is a feature ... Personally I think multiple Armies should be allowed to occupy the same tile. If the UI needs to be improved so that humans can do the same, then so be it.

The most awesome scenario is defending against a multi-stack AI army ... it just keeps coming and coming xD
