[.86 STUPID AI TRICKS] What looks like a stack of doom is really an AI sovereign, 2 scouts, and 2 pioneers

I've seen this one a lot too.  I see this huge stack coming toward and fear my game will be ending soon.  Then I click on the enemy AI stack and it's a sovereign, 2 scouts, and 2 pioneers.  What the heck?  Clearly their intention is not to explore and plop down new cities because they attack me!  Clearly, it's no contest and automatic death for them.

In late game, I've seen 6 unit AI armies with a pioneer and a combo of bowmen, mages, and chainmail wearing swordsmen.

In mid game, another AI quickly wiped out 3 other AIs with cheap armourless units.

If an AI doesn't have resources, it seems to do wacky stuff with what it's producing.

I've seen this too.  Late-game, I'm more powerful than #2 & #3 combined.  #4 declares war and sends a few stacks across neutral territory towards one of my cities.  First stack had the sovie, several combat units, and two pioneers.

At least yours had a sovereign and/or military units.

Yeah, the should AI should know when what they can make is nowhere near the quality of what they're up against, and they should take some measures to not get into a war then.

I guess the easy fix is to add weapons to Pioneers xD

-> customizing this is already possible ...

End of Tasunke's quote

There you go!  Since the AI will "borrow" our ideas for creating units, we should all design a bunch of armed pioneer units.  Maybe then we can start to fear the AI's pioneer stacks of doom.  ;-)

AI in my games always spammed spearmen and basic archers led by a champion, with a pioneer or scout thrown in as well. Not terribly effective against my legendary platemail troops and yew long-bowmen, but hey they declared war on me. What really bothered me was how they would throw away their champions with these weak stacks. I must have killed one of their champions like 25 times.

It's abvious that the AI still needs some adjustments :-)
