[Suggestion][.86]We need equipment switching in tactical combat

There are times I'd like to change my weaponry to be more effective against a specific monster (because of weaknesses and such), but I can't do this in tactical combat. Many games allow this at the expense of a turn. Could we have a re-equip button/option in combat?

Would be great. Thought about it too, thought couldnt decide about if this would be unbalanced. With the "use a round to do it", my oppinion is definetly YES PLEASE!

I could see it causing some opportunities for cheese, but since it would cost a round (or maybe two) to do it, it would be a cost. It's not the most realistic concept (Could you wait mister rat while I pull out my other weapon?), but right now you often need special builds/weapons/armor to take on specific enemies. I would assume the AI could be able to do the same, assuming they have multiple weapons/armor/etc.

Switching weapons is something that would be totally feasible in tactical combat, as would, say, swapping a ring or necklace.  Changing your entire suit of armor, however, would be completely unfeasible in the heat of battle, and I generally dislike it in games.

I agree, we should be able to swap out a weapon, however, there is no reason why it has to take a turn to do so. There are plenty of times where using a bow vs. a melee weapon makes sense for a tactical turn or two and there is no reason that the AI couldn't use this as well. In fact, it would make the AI more effective to use a distance weapon when it can't do anything else.

If you can switch weapons, I'd want champions to be able to carry less weight.  I'd say limit it to weapon and shield only if you do it.

At the very least it should cost a whole turn.  The downside is it encourages the making of one super-champ.

Normal troops should be able to do this also, especially if limited ammo is implemented.

not sure about this, probably i dont like it after all if from a role play pov it would be ok

don't think one is going to happen

Perhaps not, but doesn't hurt to ask. It's not uncommon for armies to start with bows and switch to a melee weapon when in close quarters. This is already done with throwing knives. You just choose it as a special/different attack.

Seems reasonable that a hero could have an alternate weapon set that you would need to have equipped before the battle starts.   Then during the battle, you cast a "spell" that switches to the alternate weapon set.  I'm OK with the switch costing a turn.

When you have certain weapons that give a bonus against elementals or monsters it would make sense to be able to switch during combat.  If an enemy summons an elemental I would want to use the appropriate weapon.  At present there are so many weapon variations but I just end up with a +100% strength 24 damage battle hammer by end game.  The cost of missing a turn to switch a weapon or small item would be fine by me.

I'd be up for being able to switch between any 2 weaponsets, but more than that would be overpowered and nonsensical.

I think you should have the option of 2 weapon sets.

So you can either make it your favorite two melee weapons, or your favorite melee and favorite ranged weapon.

(or magical staff vs favorite melee)

->This makes it still a choice, but slightly more varied. Do you play with 2 melee weapons, or do you pick a ranged alternative?

Personally I think it'd make the process of 'trying new weapons out' go a lot faster, so that you will more easily figure out which equipment is better off sold.

That is a great idea and it could be fun to use a dagger to cast a fireball and switch to the staff of souls before it explodes :)
