Spell of Mastery is too complex to use (my opinion)

I'm not sure why the Spell of Mastery is so hard in the game, but I think it's too complex in it's current form. Not only do you have to spend a great amount of research to get the spell but then you have to build 4! (maybe it's 5? I don't remember exactly) huge towers that take 40 to 100 turns in most cities and then control 1 of each shard as well as then spend 25 turns to win the game?

That's just a bit over the top don't you think? I would think one tower would suffice and it would need to be build in your capital city. I would also recommend that your hero has to be present in that city and is immobizied while the spell is being created. Thus your main hero isn't available for any last minute battles with the AI as the AI attempts to disrupt the spell.

JMO. I love the idea, but the way it is currently it's just too hard.

The towers put together give you 2 of each shard ... so really all you have to do is keep control of the Towers ;)

Tasunke,

Sorry, but I don't understand your point. My point was that making you build 4 or 5 towers that take some 40 (on the low end, by a stage 4 city) to 90 (on the high end, a stage 2 city) for each tower and then spend another 25 turns to cast the spell is a bit over the top. If we took a poll of how often this strategy is used, I suspect it would be lower than 10% (way lower IMO). So is having a game mechanic that is used by perhaps less than 1 in 10 players a valid mechanic? I think a single tower, serves the same purpose IMO.

I have yet to use it. Does it start a war with all other factions?

I find it the easiest way to win currently. I don't think it starts war, but I may have had non-aggression pacts with everyone beforehand. 4 buildings may be a little to many. Maybe just 1 would be best, but other then that it seems fine to me.

The wording made it sound like it only requires one building. In that the description indicates you can only have one of that type per faction. To be perfectly honest I prefer that you require all 4, as winning this way is terribly cheap otherwise. Even with building all 4 you can simply bypass diplomacy and war to accomplish a winning condition. At the very least, all current remaining factions should declare war when you begin casting, and relations should be strained while you are building (or possess) the tower.
