so why is maul still so broken?

title says it all really. Not sure if its just not a priority but with the complaints you have heard about it up till now, surprised its not fixed in this build.

In what way do  you think it's broken?

It has been heavily modified since beta 1.  I personally like it. A lot. There are other weapons that do massively more damage in 1 hit than Maul can do in several hits.

There were complaints that the maul ability didn't work because the opponent always dodged on the second strike.  But in the last couple of games I played on .77, I was lucky enough to find a couple of axes with the maul ability, and I didn't see that happening.  It was working as advertised for me.  It was fun seeing a troll take 40 damage from successive 5 and 7 point hits.

It needs to subtract a percentage instead of -4 each hit. I have a unit with 46 accuracy that can do too much damage with it. It pales the other weapons options still. And for that matter, it should be priced way higher. Currently it does better damage than lots of late game weapons and is only worth half the price to sell.

Maul aint that bad compared to older builds ie maul maul maul till dead, etc... Now it goes for 2 hits in a row. Maul isnt as powerful as it use to be too. Slap some armor on. Primary units that use maul right away.

yeah but the problem is with low level things like bear (Even if on monster i can accept a powerful ability) and the first hammer with maul

i found couple weapons with very good dmg but still on low mid level with a random crap maul and few accuracy you can literally 1 shot too many things and there arent other weapons able to do so unless with a lucky crit

its not its ability as a weapon. its running into a bear at the beginning of the game and watching them maul to death 2 units a hero and a sovereign. I'm sure at higher level its not much of a concern, but when its at the beginning of the game its a bit out of wack with the monster level.

Aside from very early game maul on a bear is irrelevant.  Early game when you have three guys with spears or a level 2 hero with a club a bear SHOULD be dangerous.

Maul works better now though I probably won't use them until Mid-game, other weapons are just better unless you have high Dex.

I'm having bigger issues with game lag/performance from Maul animations.  Occasionally crashes the game.

From my experience (in .85, sorry haven't got a chance to tinker with .86 yet), My lvl 7 Sov can do between 30-80 damage with the maul one hand axe.  This axe does not decrease initiative.  Each hit doesn between 5-10 damage.  The bigger weapons that can do larger one hit damage seem to always reduce initiative, therefore getting less attacks in.

Would it be possible to have a seperate module for just battles that we can pick what units and equipment are dueling it out, and then play the battle to see how things pan out??  Would solve the maul debate.... and let me find the best combination of weapons and abilities :) :borg:

I just had a game where Berserker's Ax missed on the second strike every time against a unit with 2 dodge...

I posted the video in my Tarth Rising Series.

I have a Berserker's Axe with level 7 requirement in my current game and it has never hit any unit more than once in the whole game. It misses the second attack every time no matter what I'm attacking. Since it usually only does 7-9 damage on it's single attack and since the tactical combat freezes for minutes at a time every time I attack with it, I finally quit using it in disgust.

So, Maul is now either bugged, useless or both in 0.86.  Too bad since I didn't get into the beta until now and get to see what it was like before it was nerfed into oblivion. It sounded like fun.

As long as Berserker bugs are fixed, I think Maul is a fine choice as an ability
