Tactical Hero AI

So I just had a one on one battle between my sovereign and an unaffiliated hero of the opposing faction that went something like this:

  • Me: Flame Dart
  • Him: Wither 
  • Me: Flame Dart
  • Him: Curse
  • Me: Flame Dart
  • Him: Blindness
  • Me: Flame Dart
  • Him: Slow
  • Me: Flame Dart
  • Him: Dead

I love that the tactical AI is using magic.  In bigger battles, it can really make things rough.  

However, in this case it was kind of dumb.  Once the AI saw that I had a ranged direct damage spell it should have tried to close with me.  I forget which hero it was, but it had Death Magic II and was melee attack strong.  All the debuffs in the world don't help if he lets me stand on the other side of the battle field and nuke away without ever closing to try to hurt me.  Neither one of us ever left our starting square.

Same thing with monsters that debuff (water shrills, darkling shamans). They seem to just cast them endlessly and rarely move unless your entire army is debuffed,

Fire/Air shrills on the other hand now never cast their own dmg spells.

Yes AI spell handling needs still to be improved.

 

Additionally the AI needs to get better in deciding on the right reachable target. To kill a unit should always be prio one.

 

Many times I can withdraw unit, as long as an other of my units is still standing beside AI units.

The Ai will then not follow my unit, even so it is reachable and only one more hit would kill my unit...
