Traits: Cruel and Natural Leader

Cruel:

+ 1 Strength

Beta 4 Update: + 1 Attack

+ 50% Champion Recruitment Costs

Natural Leader:

- 50% Champion Recruitment Costs

Beta 4 Update: "Recruiting Champions is free"

Who else sees the problem? Picking one does not lock out the other, so picking both gives you +1 strength attack with no downside, at no point cost.

I don't see a problem. Now hush before the devs see this!

There's a similar trick with vulnerable (minus 5 spell resistance) and brilliant (+1 intelligence per level).  Intelligence increases spell resistance in addition to helping spell mastery and making you get XP faster.  Hopefully by the time anyone is throwing dangerous spells at you you have enough levels so resistance is a wash and the mastery & XP bonuses are free.

Worked really well in .78, might not be quite so good in .86 now that champs level slower if you keep them together.

Cruel is very powerful if you play only with your sovereign and trained units, because it gives you + 1 str and a build point.

Would just like to point out that this little nonsensical bit of balance is still present as of Beta 4, possibly somewhat worse as now Natural Leader is"free recruiting", making the pair more appealing.

That is not my experience :)

The two traits do not cancel eachother out (not in my 0.95 build at least). If one takes both, one gets +1 attack, and recruiting champions costs 50 percent of normal (which is still very beneficial, but at least they are not free to recruit).

Yep these do not cancel out. You are usually better off taking the hit allies one and just manuevering so you dont hit allies.
