Tactical Battle Setup

Can we please have the ability to set our forces up prior to the fight actually starting a la the Total War games?  

I lose archers and mages way too often due to the game either putting them in front of, or immediately beside, my melee units that should be protecting them.  Most battles I have time to rearrange before the enemy closes, but against fast enemies I usually lose a fragile unit before the melee even gets to move.  

No commander would ever go into battle with his archers or robe wearing glass cannons in FRONT of his shield and/or spear carrying defenders.

This issue is glaring now that the AI can fight back. I started putting my archers in leather to protect them. They complain that it chafes.  v_v

I agree. Though I wouldn't mind the occasional ambush. But every battle feels like one cuz my units are always out of place.

 

PS: I'm liking the variety of tactical maps. Some even provide tactical considerations. Is a good start.

I whole heatedly agree.  Even if the starting location in the battle was linked to the order in the over-world army list would help.  As it is it seems to favor putting weaker units up front.

 

I really hate it when my fast impulsive uber sov has to blow his first turn moving around my army and then his immediate second turn rushing the enemy, instead of being able to fall on there front and take out one or two units right away.

This is a MUST. I've had my Noblewoman and some Pioneers auto-deploy front and center and in range of faster bandits and monsters, only to be crushed before they got to even move.
