It ain't fun no more WTF!!!

It ain't fun no more WTF!!!

All three browsers affected. Firefox, Internet explorer and Chrome......JEEZ!!!

Yesterday it was an issue with Windows update. I thought it was solved. It started out with two of my browsers not loading correctly. Today however its something more serious. IE, Chrome and FF are all being redirected to the Comcast billing site. No matter what link I click on or site in my speed dial they all go to Comcast. I believe it started when I opened yahoo. There was an ad on the page for comcast that didn't fully load. When I clicked on mail it started. I ran all of my utilities thinking I caught a bug but neither of them found anything. I opened MalwareBytes to run that one and as usual it needed to update its virus definitions, no problem as I've done that many times before. This time though an error message came up saying that there are files missing or corrupt. So In uninstalled MalwareBytes hoping to go for a fresh install. No go.

I used the system restore and took my laptop back to the 13th. thinking whatever is on it would be gone. Nope! Its still there and when I tried to open Windows update another error message saying it cannot access any updates. Windows update is not working, browsers are being redirected, uninstalling FF and rolling back to a previous version didn't work. Right now I can't use my laptop at all on the net. Is anyone else having this issue with browsers being redirected or is it a bug on my system. The only thing I can think of to do is use my rescue disk and pray it works.

I did that and it tells me it can't find any besides I didn't install it yet. One of the drivers I need is for the network adapter. Once I get that and I'm able to get online I can do it all on theToshiba. Right now I'm using the acer.

That makes absolutely no sense....

What have you done so far to what? Keep it simple....like is Win 7 installed on the Toshiba (or whatever machine it's going on)?

Win7 is installed on the Toshiba. I thought all the most common drivers came with the OS.

The OS comes with enough to get you up and running. You still need to to go to Toshiba Support, enter in your model number and download the original drivers specific to that laptop. Also get any updates listed.

Thanks Wiz ....... and yrag too. Going to see if I can get them now.

Uvah....whatever you do you MUST follow yrag's advice.

Failure to do so will see you being ridiculed relentlessly and called all sorts of horrible names.

I know.

I have been there....[sob] ....;)

They do...

Control Panel/ Device Manager/ Network Adapter - is there a yellow exclamation point or a red 'X' next to it? (My guess is 'no')

If not, it's working. Set up the network/Wi-Fi settings in 'Network and Sharing Center. (make sure Wi-Fi is enabled and the light is 'on')

If there is, right click: Properties/ Driver/ Update Driver/ Browse my computer for driver/ Let me pick from list......

Find your adapter.

I wish you were not so subtle.  Can you just tell Uvah what he should or shouldn't do instead of all these hints?

I'm still unsure why Yrag told me to turn off system restore, but he did, and I did.

Despite being scary, ugly, smartassed, and all around obnoxious, I love the guy. He knows his shit.

Why do you think I listen to him. There's a yellow exclamation point next to it.

Is the Wi-fi light on?  (enable via button or FN+F8)

In your case, it is maybe the cause of your problem... but a yellow exclamation point don't always mean a problem... for example, in my case, i have 2 ! :

- PS/2 Compatible Mouse -> ACPI\PNP0F13\5&6B1A51C&0 -> This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.

Well, i have a PS/2 port ( round connector ) but i use a USB mouse... not really a problem...

- RAID Controller -> PCI\VEN_9005&DEV_041F&SUBSYS_818015D9&REV_09\5&79943F7&0&100318 -> The drivers for this device are not installed.

In this case, i have a hardware raid who is configured in the bios... if i use the windows driver, it mess up everything and ignore all my ext3 partition, same if the ext3 driver for windows is installed...

What is really slow is that you need so much time for solve your problem... remote diagnostic via a forum is not the more easy and faster way...

Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_viewer ... it is a very usefull little software... use it for diagnostic and repair computer that i have installed without the need to visit my customer... a lot of my customer don't make any upgrade too, one conection by month and i install remotly all the update ( windows, java, flash, etc )... the tool allow somebody to take control of your computer and make the job for you... beware, to use only with somebody that you trust completely, like yrag by example...

A short video who show how to use it for remote support :

Provider unknow, ... , not signed = no problem ... certify a driver via microsoft cost money... a lot of hardware fabricant don't certify driver for win7...

As for the "not valid win32 application"... is your instalation of Win7 a 32bit or a 64 bit instalation ? Look like you have instal win7 32 bit and download the win7 64 bit driver...

While you're scratching your head for that, look in Device Manager/ Network Adapter: Intel or Atheros?

Sorry, you posted at the same time I did. There is no light for the wi-fi. F8 turns it on or off but there is no indicator.

I did get the video driver for it. Extracted the archive and clicked on the setup.exe. Its encrypted.
