Can this be right?

I've been trying to get FE running on my laptop which I just bought in June.  It ran WOM just fine and has a good graphics card.  I've been contacting support trying to work out why FE won't run.  Today I got this response from support:

Hello,

It seems that your Processor does not meet the minimum requirements for the game: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz

Fallen Enchantress needs a processor speed of 2.4 GHz.

This might be causing the problem, WoM works because its minimum requirements are less than Fallen Enchantresses.

I am sorry but your computer cannot run Fallen Enchantress.

Can this be correct?  I'd be surprised if this were the case.

If they say so, it's probably right.

I have a laptop with a core2 duo at 1.8ghz (and runs FE fine in win7 & xp)(btw integrated video not a discrete video chip)

and another laptop that I have now tested fe in( a celeron 1.8)( has an ati200).

and I did NOT get any warnings about minimum system requirements during the installs.

and both laptops have 3gb of ram(ddr2 800mhz only)

And FE runs on those, Harpo?

I will try installing it on another computer tomorrow.

I just thought if you didn't have a good processor it ran slower.  I was surprised they would actually put code in to stop it from running.

Same here, running at 2.2 Ghz with integrated graphics.  Runs a small map fine, have not tested bigger on this system.

One question to the devs about minimum requirements: elsewhere Frogboy said "We don’t officially support single core CPU’s because they’re so old but their terrible performance helps us find bugs."

I'll ask again: So I must forget about playing FE on my oldie one-core Pentium 4 2.8 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, GeForce 8600 GTS (256 MB)?8|

I tried it on my desktop computer.  It has an older processor, but its also 2.1 Ghz.  Its also got an older graphics card.  And to my amazement, FE works just fine.  So, I guess its not a hard requirement to be 2.4 and this can't be why my laptop isn't working.

Do you have one-core processor? Which graphic card do you have?

On my desktop my processor and graphics card are:

Intel Core 2 CPU @ 2.13

ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500

On my laptop they are:

Intel Core i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz

NVIDIA GE Force GT 525M

So it looks like they are both dual core

I don't know what the exact problem is getting it to run on your laptop, however by installing the latest Nvidia Beta drivers I was able to get it to run on my laptop when it wouldn't with the latest released drivers.  Hope this helps.

Thanks SeaDan, I'll try that.  I'm sure it is graphics card related.  This laptop has two graphics cards, an integrated Intel one and the NVIDIA one.  I had to install the Nvidia control panel to designate which programs would run the NVIDIA graphics card, otherwise it was always defaulting to the Intel one.  I checked the FE Debug file though, and it looks like it is trying to use the NVIDIA card, but still failing.  I'll get the latest beta and see if that helps...

That was it!  Installed the latest beta version (from January) of the NVIDIA drivers and it works like a charm.

Thanks.

Now I'll let the Stardock support guys know...
