Do I get Elemental War of Magic? or wait for Fallen Enchantress?

I was all set to buy Elemental: War of Magic long before it was released. But I got busy and by the time I got around to buying it there was so much bad press that I decided to hold off. I have been checking in on the game off and on since then.  I have gotten close to buying a few time but people keep telling be it is not ready or that that fun.

So in your opinion is the game fun now that it has been worked on so much. Or is there still a lot of missing potential and should I just wait for Fallen Enchantress and see where that takes the series?

You wait! In my opinion (I have been here since 2009), FE will give you a pleasant surprise. Dont waste time on Elemental. It just didnt end up as a good game.

WoM is much better than it was when launched but is still a poor game. Fallen Enchantress is already a good game and will get better. Definitely wait.

Elemental: War of Magic is a decent game with some solid ideas that just didn't come together.  I just never got that "I need to play" feeling.  I personally would wait for Fallen Enchantress as it is already a significantly better experience despite only being in the early beta stage.

War of Magic 1.4 is at best an average game.  Fallen Enchantress 0.77 is already better.  Wait for it.

So is SD officially and completely abandoning WoM after FE is released?

Also,I gather from the info on the board that FE will essentially be a fantasy version of Civ4?.

I've already played Fall from Heaven....

FE does not equal Civ.

 

FE is a bit closer to Civ than WoM is ... but that's like saying Saturn is closer to Pluto than Jupiter is.

 

Civ is all Macro and abstractions ... the terrain is the most important thing.

 

In FE the terrain is less important for the economy(terrain only affects the initial food and production, it does not affect the late game all that much)

with individual unit designs and tactical battles ... FE is more about the Micro.
